About the role
As a member of our Project Contracts & Procurement - BFX group you will be part of a team of Specialists reporting to the Superintendent Project Contracts and Procurement - BFX (PC&P) and based in our Adelaide office. You will be working collaboratively on the BFX Project to deliver superior project outcomes. 
You will be contributing to world class contract administration and commercial performance with an emphasis on strategic and complex construction and engineering contracts.
As a member of the Project Contracts & Procurement Supply sub-function for Minerals Australia, you will be responsible for working collaboratively to implement and manage contracts according to the approved strategy with an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
A core focus of this role will be the engagement with our Project Development team to develop front-end contracting strategies and the management of our tendering process to deliver best value for our projects. As part of the role you will be expected to foster collaborative relationships with our supply chain to drive improved transparency and engagement with the market.

In this role you will:
  • Development of strategies, undertake sourcing and execute new contracts compliant with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct, Group Level Documents (GLDs), Functional Level Requirements (FLRs) and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Draft high quality tender and contract documents to minimise ambiguity
  • Ensure the appropriate allocation of risks through the selection of the most effective commercial pricing models
  • Be involved in influencing the selection of various project delivery models throughout the project phases
  • Provide contract management (including administration) support to project teams throughout the contract life-cycle
  • Provide contractor and contract performance monitoring and reporting to support the Projects Category (KPI reporting, spend analytics, contract variations incl. claims management, and off-contract spend)
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to become a highly valued contract expert, trusted with commercial support
  • Participate in negotiations with vendors and provide on-going contract management up to and including close-out
  • Maintain contract data in SAP/SRM systems and other contract management systems
  • Vary contracts as required including updating or expand Scopes of Services and Schedules of Material
  • Support direct tendering, negotiation & implementation of complex and high value contracts
  • Manage the documentation and review/ approval process for the execution of variation/ amendment requests for contracts to company guidelines
  • Review and respond to potential new vendors with suitable responses to business development enquiries

About You

You will have the opportunity to utilise your advanced engagement and collaboration skills in managing stakeholder relationships. Likewise, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and a high standard of oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in contract and/or commercial role, ideally within a major projects and/or construction environment (eg. mining, defence and infrastructure)
  • Sound commercial acumen and financial evaluation skills, with excellent judgement to deliver the best outcomes for our business
  • Experience on construction projects negotiating contract terms, as well as setting contract and procurement strategies for complex projects
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach, with advanced communication skills
  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, finance or legal studies are advantageous
  • Experience with complex contract models including EPC, EPCM, D&C and partnering is desirable
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational management skills
