The Project

It’s an exciting time to be at Olympic Dam! The SMA Declines Project reports into the BFX Program and is a key enabler of the BFX longer term investment.  The US$200M Project is currently in Selection Phase Study (SPS). The scope features twin declines for the transport of rock, personnel and logistics, and provides surface infrastructure for crushing and materials handling as well as fleet maintenance and personnel facilities.  Project execution is scheduled to commence in 2020 with handover to Operations in 2023.

About the Role

As the Specialist Project Engineer assigned to the SMA Declines Project you will be a key member of the team providing technical and project management support through the Selection Phase (SPS) and Definition Phase (DPS) studies.  You will then move forward into the Execution Phase (EXE) where your input will be critical to safely deliver the designed underground and surface infrastructure and handover to Olympic Dam Operations.

This is an Adelaide based position with travel to the Olympic Dam mine.

In this role you will:
  • Coordinate and manage engineering consultants and technical service providers to deliver scopes of services within agreed scope, schedule and budget.
  • Clarify and provide technical guidance on engineering standards and processes to project team and engineering providers.
  • Prepare internal technical reports, study reports and other documentation in compliance with the Minerals Australia Projects (MAP) Internal Standards, BHP Our Requirements and supporting guidelines
  • Integration support and coordination with BFX Program functional support providers including Engineering, Project Services, Technology, HSEC, Risk Management, and Approvals.
  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment and social value with active participation in Field Leadership activities and the BFX Program’s culture plan.

About You

  • Degree qualified with experience in Project Studies and front-end project engineering roles
  • Exposure to large multi-disciplinary projects
  • Experience with project engineering on major projects and working in functional models.
  • Experience with mine infrastructure design and installation, materials handling systems highly desirable.
  • Strong communications skills and ability to build relationships across multiple levels and business functions
  • Desire to challenge industry norms and business as usual practices
  • Leading by example; hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in “Safety Leadership”
  • Ability to mentor and develop others in the fit-for-purpose engineering standards
