About the role

This role provides specialist advice and executes tasks in the provision of project cost engineering services to Projects.

This position is a grade 10 role.

In this role you will:
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Ensures compliance with project services Global and Petroleum business requirements and standards.
  • Provides cost engineering expertise and support to the Project Management Office, Project Development and Delivery sub-functions to ensure the optimum delivery of a project\program of projects.
  • Implements the appropriate cost control regime for a particular project given its scope, contracting strategy, complexity, and other project factors.
  • Collates and reviews individual project costs and comparison against the project budget.
  • Ensures project costs are accurately recorded in the Cost Management System.
  • Applies Earned Value techniques as appropriate to forecast cost trends.
  • Compiles cost trends and provides advice regarding corrective action.
  • Identifies and implements Cost Engineering improvement initiatives.
  • Liaises with representatives from the project teams, Risk, Supply, and Project Services to develop the time phased forecast to complete on projects.
  • Manages Value of Work Done and submits project accruals.
  • Guides and coaches project personnel on the requirements and implementation of cost engineering principals.

About You

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate qualifications in Business (Finance or Accounting Major) , Engineering or Quantity Surveying


Skills
  • Ability to engage with & communicate effectively across multiple business units and functional areas
  • Exceptional productivity which demonstrates reliability in getting the job done accurately and on time
  • Ability to input into the of project cost estimates prior to submission capital review committees
  • Facilitate /coordinate Monthly Project Status Reporting
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement
  • Negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to apply the business strategy into the way we work
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Cost Management Systems (e.g. CMS, Ecosys, Prism)
Experience
  • 5-10 years of practical experience in a project environment focussed on Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Relevant experience in Cost Control, Estimating, Planning and/or Project Control, preferably in EPCM and Owners team positions or equivalent relevant experience from Finance, Planning, Investment Evaluation etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management systems & techniques
