About the role

Reporting to the Head of Risk Analysis & Insights, you will be a key member of the team that connects people with risk insights to make better decisions. Your role is to support the management and reporting of BHP’s emerging, current and strategic risks by analysing and synthesising internal and external risk data and maintaining risk analytic tools.

You will provide standard risk reports and targeted analysis to assist the business to understand and effectively manage the company’s top risks. You will also help deliver continuous improvement opportunities in risk reporting, risk data analytic tools and key risk indicators. You will help ensure the Board and management understand and prioritise the full spectrum and magnitude of risks faced by BHP by drawing on aggregation principles, reviewing completeness of the risk profile, and monitoring performance against risk appetite.

As the Specialist Risk Analysis & Insights, your responsibilities are to:
  • Analyse risk data to identify key themes, potential issues and opportunities to improve risk management and business performance.
  • Contribute to the preparation of internal and external risk reports.
  • Contribute to monitoring the Group’s performance against key performance and risk indicators, including delivering improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of data sourcing, collation and reporting.
  • Analyse risk data to determine the organisation’s aggregate risk exposure and inform the prioritisation of business and risk activities.
  • Provide standard analytics reports and targeted analysis to address key issues, and share risk information and insights with the Risk team and business to assist with reporting and risk management.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in the use and application of risk analytic tools.
  • Work collaboratively with Technology and the broader Risk team to identify and deliver improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of risk reporting systems and tools, routines and content.
  • Advise the business on how to use risk analytics tools and how to interpret data analytics to provide risk and business insights.

About You

Ideally you will bring to the role the following skills and experience:
  • Significant experience in reporting risk or business performance or in advisory roles which require extensive data or information analysis.
  • Experience working with risk management systems and risk data, with data analytics and SAP GRC experience preferred.
  • Experience in the use of statistical / relational / mathematical models and creation of models highly regarded.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and evaluative judgment skills. 
  • High attention to detail with strong quality control skills.
  • Mining or oil and gas experience preferred.
  • Degree in relevant field such as business, mathematics / statistics, data science, or information technology preferred
