About the role

We currently have an opportunity to join our Health, Safety and Environment – Business Partnering team as a Specialist Safety at Blackwater. The roster is 5:2 and the role will be offered on a Residential only roster in the Bowen Basin. Please note this is a 12 month fixed term / secondment opportunity.   Reporting to the Superintendent HSE, this is a unique opportunity to utilise your skills and experience with one of the world's largest coal producers. In this role, you will provide specialised safety advice, support and coaching for leadership to promote improved safety outcomes across the site.   The position will be supported by experienced site safety professional, and is suited to a development opportunity for anyone who is passionate about safety.  

In this role you will:
  • Support line management in their accountability for HSE risk assessments, event investigation, field leadership and compliance to relevant HSE requirements;
  • Monitor the quality of HSE risk assessments, event investigation and field leadership;
  • Coach, influence and provide technical expertise in service of building Safety and Health capacity and capability within operations / site based functions; and 
  • Provide input into safety planning and risk management processes.

About You

We anticipate that you will be a suitably qualified Safety professional, possessing relevant experience in a similar role with experience in a regional location within the resources industry. As a Safety Specialist in the HSE Team, you will be focused on creating a culture of care through visible safety leadership and by engaging, developing and coaching others. You will possess the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve solid outcomes and support continuous improvement is one of your strengths.
