About the role

  • Maintain an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Ensure compliance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents (Our Requirements), Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Lead the crisis and emergency management plan tactical response and related activities on the Jansen site.
  • Coordinate emergency resposne training requirements including hazmat response, mine rescue and fire fighting.
  • Advise and coach line management to enable the implementation of leading health and safety practices throughout the operation.
  • Assist line areas to identify, report, investigate and mitigate incidents and hazards within established systems.
  • Provide assurance to line management that health and safety risks are identified, assessed and controlled.
  • Assist with the delivery of safety-related services (eg HSE-related training and onboarding; security and site access)
  • Foster communication and consultation with internal and external stakeholders on health and safety matters.

About You

  • Skilled in mine rescue and industrial emergency response practices.
  • A working knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective control of safety related risks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong focus on employee engagement.
  • Ability to coach and influence with credibility.
  • Managing competing priorities, expectations and requirements.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office and computer based planning systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years Health and Safety experience preferably in heavy industry, mining or industrial construction.
  • Proficient in emergency response and crisis management, preferably with underground mine rescue, hazmat, high angle rescue and firefighting experience.
  • Proven experience in management systems, risk management, behavioral safety and auditing.
