About the role

At BHP, External Affairs is a global function spanning Legal, Corporate Affairs, Risk, Ethics & Compliance, Internal Audit, Group HSE and Group Governance. Together, these sub-functions are accountable for work that is recognised as integral to the current and future direction of our Company, locally and globally.    

The Strategy & Planning team works to establish, embed and continuously improve the long-term integrated strategy of the External Affairs function, as well as associated programs of work. Members of our team have a unique and unparalleled opportunity to work across all seven of our External Affairs sub-functions, alongside teams drawn from a diverse range of skillsets and geographies.   

Reporting to the Vice President Strategy & Planning for External Affairs, you will be responsible for:
  • Supporting the delivery of functional planning milestones including the External Affairs strategy, 5 year plan and 2 year budget (including reforecasting).
  • Developing and executing systems and processes to collect, verify, analyse and report data and performance information at a global level.
  • Providing analysis, coaching and support to drive compliance with Our Requirements and ensure the integrity of External Affairs wide processes and systems.
  • Supporting the design and delivery of function-wide programs and initiatives that continuously improve the culture, effectiveness and efficiency of External Affairs.
  • Providing coaching and developing additional tools and reference materials to support capability uplift in new ways of working (e.g. Agile) across the function.
  • Driving cross-functional integration through ongoing collaboration with colleagues across the External Affairs sub-functions.

About You

You will be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent stakeholder engagement skills and an ability to work with ambiguity and complex issues. Strong data analytics capability (e.g. advanced Excel proficiency), commercial acumen and relevant experience applying new ways of working (e.g. Agile) will be viewed favourably. You are most likely a business professional working in a global organisation, a large matrix structure or a management consulting firm.  

Your ability to synthesise complex information, provide quality analysis, and support the design and execution of planning and reporting activities will see you being successful in this role.   

Working knowledge of planning, project management and change management disciplines and demonstrated success operating in multidisciplinary global teams will be advantageous.
