About the role

As the Specialist Tenure & Approvals, this role will give you exposure to supporting a broad portfolio of resource assets associated with our underground Olympic Dam operations.  

You will support the day-to-day planning and coordination of land access and approval requirements, securing and maintaining exploration and mining tenements, working with internal and external stakeholders to secure land access, management of approvals and meeting legal requirements for access. 

You will also be exposed to land access, tenure, mining and planning legislation issues, support land negotiations and other stakeholder engagement exercises including with land owners, communities,  Local, State and Federal Governments on behalf of BHP Olympic Dam.

This is an Adelaide based position.

 In this role you will:
  • Be responsible for planning, securing and maintaining land access approvals to support operations and enable growth within our jurisdictions;
  • Oversee arrangements associated with land access and approvals within our South Australian operations and acquisitions;
  • Support a robust framework for approvals, to support sustainability of long-term approvals;
  • Engage with studies and resourcing engineering teams, planning and execution groups to guide through study and infrastructure project obligations on access activities;
  • Interface with support functions including HSE, Legal and Corporate Affairs teams to support access for exploration activities, and operations to support ongoing access for mining and copper activities;
  • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, neighbours, land owners, pastoralists and local communities.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in securing mining and development approvals, including a thorough understanding of the Mining Act, Development Act and environmental legislation within South Australia
  • Experience engaging in negotiations with government agencies, pastoralists and community groups
  • Previous exposure to a similar Approvals role in-house or as a consultant
  • Organisational skills for managing deliverables and multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously
  • Communication skills that allow you to beat ease in influencing up and working with a diverse range of senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Experienced in engaging with those outside direct line responsibility including peers, team members, superiors and senior management
