Come and be a part of this success.

You’ll be based at our new ‘Jimblebar’ mine site, the first Greenfield mine in over 40 years to be both developed and operated by BHP Billiton Iron Ore - located 40kms North East of Newman, Western Australia.  The outstanding facilities at the brand new FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, golf driving nets, outdoor cinema, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court; beach volleyball court, games room and TV lounge. All rooms at the village have access to 3G wireless internet and Skype, an ensuite bathroom, flat screen television, refrigerator and air-conditioning

About the role

We’re looking for a Specialist Trainer/Assessor, with hands on mining excavation experience to monitor and increase competency of our operators, and new starters.

You’ll be planning and delivering high quality training in line with WA Iron Ore standards. We’ll also be asking you to engage in project work as required. This role will see you ensuring that adequately skilled operators are available to site for all rostered shifts.

Safety is paramount in everything we do, and we’re committed to ensuring that our training is relevant and conforms with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct and statutory obligations.  Innovation is continually transforming the way we work at BHP – as such, any suggestions you may have relating to improvement of how we train our personnel will be actively welcomed and considered.

Reporting to, and working alongside a supportive Supervisor Training, other key focus areas will include:
  • Driving improvements to champion safety.
  • Regularly engaging with Mining Supervisors to clarify training requirements.
  • Maintaining a training matrix.
  • Ensuring training materials are updated and developed.
  • Identifying initiatives that add commercial and operational value to our business.

Kindly note, this position is typically offered on an 8:6 FIFO rotation. Due to current COVID circumstances, you will be placed on a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation. At the moment, this means 15 days on, 13 days off.

About You

Do you have operational experience on large production machinery such as Track Dozers and Excavators? Do you have an exceptional track record in safety?

This could be your opportunity to join one of the world’s largest mining producers and make a positive impact on our day to day operations.

The following attributes will greatly assist your success in role:
  • A genuine commitment to safety and sustainable development.
  • Large scale open pit mining experience.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to positively influence others.

If you have a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, whilst advantageous, it’s not essential. We will happily support you in obtaining this qualification, provided you have excavator experience and a can do attitude. If you have experience operating D10 Dozers, this will also be viewed favorably.

Supporting a diverse workforce

At BHP, we recognise that we are strengthened by diversity. We are committed to providing a work environment in which everyone is included, treated fairly and with respect. We are an Equal Opportunity employer and we encourage applications from women and Indigenous people.

We know there are many aspects of our employees’ lives that are important, and work is only one of these, so we offer benefits to enable your work to fit with your life.  These benefits include flexible working options, a generous paid parental leave policy, other extended leave entitlements and parent rooms.

The safety of BHP’s people and our candidates is our number one priority.

Due to the unfolding circumstances of COVID-19 and the Government regulations in place to deal with the pandemic,  your working location and/or roster as advertised in this advert may be temporarily subject to change whilst the government regulations are in place.

This is to ensure the health safety of our workforce, and to implement effective social distancing measures.  These changes if applicable will be discussed at screening and interview stage.
