About the role

Our global BHP Technology Function works closely with our Operations, Functions and Centres of Excellence to drive improvement in safety, culture, productivity, and social value through the application of world class technology.

As part of the Global Applications and ERP (Application Excellence & Technical Services) team, you will report directly into the Lead User Experience and be accountable for defining strategy, continuous engagement, promoting user-centered design and building best practice within BHP. This role is based in Perth.

In this role, your key accountabilities will include:
  • Be instrumental in shaping, in promoting and in embedding the User Experience Centre of Excellence
  • Ensure enterprise focus on user-centred quality:
    • Identify opportunities / benefits of good user-centred quality for the organization
    • Establish and maintain awareness of the importance of user-centred quality
  • Support UX Maturity Assessments
  • Engage the community of UX practitioners to capture learnings from projects to improvements that can be made for future projects.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to create effective, usable, and satisfying user experiences within Technology applications
  • Be the voice of our customers and relentlessly strive to understand user needs
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants and 3rd party suppliers who deliver BHP’s commercial off the shelf products or custom-built products to ensure high standards of useability
  • Executing User-Centred design across the portfolio with activities not limited to:
    • Establish the user and related stakeholder requirements
    • Establish user-centred quality objectives (i.e. Develop a high-level description of the context of use (list of user groups, tasks, equipment used, environment))
    • Define extent of and management of HCD activities in the project
    • Assess usability problems caused by implementation errors or IT customization often in conjunction with consulting domain experts.
    • Accountable for the creation of user interface prototypes in the appropriate fidelity for complex product modules with a deterministic user flow (success paths are known in advance).
    • Creation of high-fidelity prototypes of sufficient completeness that they can be used or usability testing (walk through methods)
  • Partner with business and technology teams to create effective, usable, and satisfying user experiences within Technology applications
  • Engage with stakeholders in technology and business for technology trend analysis, problem management, business impact scoping and other requirements. 
  • Commit to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development, as well as BHP’s Charter and Code of Conduct.

About You

  • 8-12 years of experience in executing the full delivery of UI/UX service in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of tools and applications that are used to support UX frameworks
  • Proficient with common UX principles and language including user-centred design, patterns, and design thinking
  • Strong creative, conceptual, and strategic-thinking skills
  • Experienced in user-centred design - hands on from initial wireframe and prototyping to delivering final assets
  • Demonstrated ability to implement practical, actionable plans that are coherent and understood by all stakeholders
  • Engages with each team member in collaboration platforms, solicits feedback from them on accountable activities and accurately restates the opinions of others even when he/she disagrees
  • Ability to drive change, continuously improve and provide the highest quality products and services which meet the needs and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Ability to make quality and timely decisions using available information and sound judgement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present and discuss technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding.
  • Exposure to working in global environment, including geographically dispersed businesses, communication across variety of audiences, etc.
  • Experience in Collaboration environment (Minerals and/or Oil and Gas) and understands the nature of opportunities and issues faced by operations will be advantageous.
    Bachelor’s Degree in one of these field: Design, Computing, Communications Business or Creative Arts
