About the role

The Landform Planning Specialist will be responsible for leading excellence in mine planning in the area of final landform design. Based in the BHP Minerals Australia Closure Planning team the role will support the WAIO business and has access to some of the industry's best people as well as being part of a results-oriented and performance-focused team with accountability across the Australian BHP commodities.

The Landform Planning Specialist champions the design of closure landforms for progressive rehabilitation that integrate effectively with Life of Asset mine plans. In doing so they translate long term Closure strategies into near term outcomes to achieve the optimal balance of value and risk. The role leads the development of the landform design processes and final landform design criteria. They manage technical studies such as waste rock dump erosion modelling, external research, and pilot projects. This position is based in Perth on a Monday to Friday roster with some site travel.

Your responsibilities
  • Deliver Closure landform designs (waste rock dumps, problematic waste encapsulation, mine voids and surface water management) suitable for progressive execution over the life of mine to meet post closure objectives.
  • Advise and design guidance to the business (including mining engineers, project engineers and HSE specialists) to ensure operational mine plans and projects (short and long term) deliver closure outcomes.
  • Develop and improve design parameters for landform slopes including surface water management by advancing our understanding of available construction materials including overburden, topsoil and rock.
  • Design and deliver programs of testing, modelling and monitoring to study landform performance.
  • Maintain and improve landform design guidance used for Strategic and Tactical plans and executable rehabilitation designs.
  • Implement Management of Change to support embedding continuous improvements in the planning, design and execution of closure landforms.
  • Provide inputs and support to Closure Planning processes and projects.

  • Tertiary qualifications and capability highly regarded.

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’.
