About the role

The Project

It’s an exciting time to be at Olympic Dam! The Brownfield’s Expansion (BFX) Program is the first step in the Olympic Dam growth strategy to increase copper production to 300ktpa by opening up the Southern Mining Area (SMA) to access more ore at higher grades and expansion of the surface ore processing facility.

The SMA Declines Project reports into the BFX Program and is a key enabler of the BFX longer term investment.  The US$200M Project is currently in Selection Phase Study (SPS). The scope features twin declines for the transport of rock, personnel and logistics, and provides surface infrastructure for crushing and materials handling as well as fleet maintenance and personnel facilities.  Project execution is scheduled to commence in 2020 with handover to Operations in 2023.

About the Role

As the Lead Studies assigned to the SMA Declines Project, you will manage a Study Team comprising of direct reports, internal functional support team members and engineering service providers to develop and evaluate the business case and take carriage of the most value accretive business case through the investment gating process. 

You will be responsible for the  management and delivery of the Selection Phase Study (SPS) and Definition Phase Study (DPS) requirements in compliance with the Minerals Australia Projects (MAP) Internal Standard and BHP Our Requirements. 

This is an Adelaide based position.

In this role you will:
  • Manage the SMA Declines Project’s scope, schedule and cost to deliver the project in accordance with the approved business case
  • Prepare internal technical reports, study reports and other documentation in compliance with the Minerals Australia Projects (MAP) Internal Standards, BHP Our Requirements and supporting guidelines.
  • Manage the performance of engineering service providers and other consultants to deliver agreed services within scope, schedule and budget
  • Lead the innovation process of exploring and evaluating all valuing creating opportunities to identify the optimal investment alternative for the agreed business objectives
  • Coordinate BFX Program functional support providers including Engineering, Project Services, Technology, HSEC, Risk Management, and Approvals.
  • Develop and implement value optimisation practices/plan to deliver the optimal investment alternatives
  • Champion the goal of Zero Harm (HSEC)
  • Identify and manage project related Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) Risks

About You

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Commerce, Economics or similar
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of project study methodology and requirements
  • Experience in Commercial and Strategy development roles
  • Mining industry, hydrocarbon, heavy industry, construction, processing or relevant projects exposure
  • Understanding of commercial requirements, investment and financial evaluation skills
  • Capability to apply divergent and convergent thinking
  • Risk and uncertainty management and analysis exposure
  • Highly influential with strong engagement skills to generate ideas and lateral solutions
  • Ability to lead a team of project professionals to deliver high quality outcomes
  • Leading by example; hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in “Safety Leadership”
