About the role

The Study Lead role in the Western Australian Asset Projects Studies team is responsible for developing projects through Identification, Selection and Definition investment phases, making a significant contribution to safety, scope, cost, schedule and quality outcomes. We are seeking a number of highly motivated people to fill positions in our Closure and Port Studies teams.

Reporting to the Manager Studies, this position leads multidisciplinary study teams who deliver studies ranging in size from US$ 10 million to US$ 250 million. You will have the chance to promote business excellence and make full use of your broad range of skills in the areas of problem solving, technical knowledge and communication to optimise project outcomes and help unlock material value from our low cost operations and long life resources.  You will engage effectively and be supported by a range of relationships across the business, including approvals, marketing, finance, geoscience, mine planning, engineering, technology, delivery and operations.   In this role you will have the opportunity to:
  • Be responsible for studies (from concept to feasibility level) contributing to BHP’s sustaining, improvement and growth project pipeline;
  • Analyse and review functional input from technical and commercial functions and ensure alignment with business objectives;
  • Ensure that key recommendations and decisions are selected and optimised for value and risk, are high quality, robust and developed in accordance with BHP’s project Standards;
  • Coach and develop collaboration and cooperation in your teams;
  • Ensure BHP’s values are at the forefront of each team member’s mind;
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously;
  • Engage effectively with Executives, project stakeholders and decision making forums.

About You

Experienced in working within dynamic environments, you will be an effective problem solver and compelling influencer, able to clearly communicate business benefits, risks and project dependencies. Key to your success will be superior interpersonal, facilitation and influencing skills, and the ability to clearly communicate key issues with senior executives as well as technical experts. You will possess divergent and convergent thinking skills along with a strong understanding of business value. You will be a flexible, resourceful and collaborative problem solver and your ability to manage multiple levels of complexity and ambiguity will be a key strength in this role.
  • Resources sector, consulting or major project experience with exposure to project development within studies
  • Investment evaluation and business planning in a corporate environment is highly valued
  • You will be degree qualified in engineering, science or commercial discipline
  • Further post graduate studies in business/finance or project management are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • You have proven experience in effectively influencing teams of professionals across function
  • You will have demonstrated technical and commercial acumen with advanced problem solving skills and strategic thinking, and be comfortable leading work that delivers upon our sustainability commitments.

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’.
