About the role

The purpose of the Superintendent – Apprenticeships is to lead a team of training professionals to develop the competency and skills for apprentices and trainees for Operations Services.
The work of this role and team encompasses:
  • Leading a team of trainers to train apprentices and trainees including competency assessment and training and other core skills training
  • Ensuring that training is conducted in a safe environment and that all statutory compliance is maintained including training systems, programs, content and records management
  • Identifying leading practice methodologies for apprenticeship and traineeship programs and implementing a continuous improvement approach in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders
  • Supporting the delivery and maintenance of systems and tools to automate program deployment and status update on competency requirements
  • Active participation, compliance and contribution to the effective operation of BHP’s relevant HSE policies and systems
  • Leading the Apprenticeships training team effectively including encouraging contributions and ideas, providing clear work and performance expectations, work performance review, feedback, coaching and support to create the conditions for them to do their best.
  • With the Apprenticeships training team, identifying or developing and implementing competency and training programs in line with OS business requirements and broader BHP initiatives.
  • Ensuring that all statutory compliance is maintained including training systems, programs, content and records management
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to develop high quality resources and methods for training Apprentices and Trainees
  • Collaborating with training leaders in other relevant BHP groups to enable maximum use of existing training systems and resources.
  • Continuous monitoring of apprenticeships training services performance and initiating the necessary input or support to ensure these services are achieving their objectives.
  • Encouraging and leading productive collaboration across OS peer groups through informal processes as well as formal forums and routines.
  • Efficient and effective execution of projects or tasks assigned by the Manager Apprenticeships, directly or as agreed by role customers.

About You

  • Strong experience and background in leading teams within a technical environment
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline preferred or significant experience in a similar role within mining or heavy industry
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment desirable
  • A continuous improvement focus that identifies opportunities for improving processes, creating efficiencies and designing capability improvement
  • Strong understanding of VET legislative requirements
  • High level interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong partnerships across a range of stakeholders both external and internal
  • Willingness to lead and implement change, as well as influence, coach and model BHP values and behaviours
