About Olympic Dam Mine

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.

As an emerging enabler for Value Chain Excellence a Mine Control environment is being established to support Mine Operations, including Development, Mine Services and Production employees; working collaboratively with operations teams on a shift-to-shift basis to make faster decisions improving safety and optimising value.

About the Position

We are currently inviting applications for the role of Superintendent Control Operations for the Mine. The position is based at Olympic Dam, reporting to the Manager Mine Schedule.

This position is being offered on a Monday to Friday/Monday to Thursday roster. Flexible working and part time options will also be supported. FIFO from Adelaide and Residential options are available.

The first twelve to eighteen months in this role will see you:
  • Deliver the operations readiness for the control room, including placement and development of the control team
  • Positively shape culture in alignment with the BHP Charter Values
  • Motivate, engage and coach the team towards achieving safety, inclusiveness and productivity goals
  • Plan for and establish control team work methods and processes
  • Establish the strong relationships with operations required to enable performance
  • Establish positive working relationships with support functions
  • Ongoing accountabilities for this role include:
  • Ensuring an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day running of the Control Operations Mine team.  Providing leadership to Control Operations Mine team and empowering them to support performance of the mine
  • Interfacing regularly with all site based Operations, Scheduling, Planning and Processing to maximise copper production and production efficiencies
  • Taking responsibility for business continuity plans and being accountable for ensuring the required procedures and systems are in place
  • Assisting with the development of the two year budget and 5 year plan
  • Monitoring the operating costs and ensuring that spend is controlled to the allocated budget
  • Reporting and investigating any significant deviation from the operational plans
  • Leading process improvement initiatives
  • Taking responsibility for identifying and resolving systemic issues, and for assessing the potential impact on production, plant and equipment
  • Actively participating in field leadership, safety meetings and managing  key safety investigations relevant to the team 
  • Continuing to build a positive, high achieving culture

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
  • Demonstrated change leadership experience
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Navigating ambiguity
  • Previous mining operations experience preferred
  • Experience or familiarity with control rooms or control centres would be beneficial
