The South Flank Project is an expansion of BHP's existing Mining Area C hub, located approximately 130 km by road north-west of the town of Newman. This project has potential to become one of the largest standalone iron ore processing centres in the world, within reach of several billion tonnes of high-grade ore.

Embracing inclusion and diversity to create a vibrant culture that represents the communities in which we live, South Flank is focused on high performance, flexible work arrangements, strong Indigenous participation and gender balance.

This is a rare and exiting opportunity for a dynamic individual to be part of something big – to work in an innovative team, with evolving technology, and playing a pivotal role in creating a world class mine.

About the role

Under the guidance of the Mine Manager this role will lead one of the Load and Haul teams at South Flank.  As the Load and Haul Superintendent, you will be accountable for the safe execution of the mine plan whilst driving the culture of a team, in excess of 120 members.

You will be expected to leverage the BHP Operating Systems and Processes to drive business outcomes.  Sound technical skills and operational experience will be core for this role as a subject matter expect, as well as being a strong collaborator with a structured approach to problems.

This role will also see you involved in ramp up and commissioning activities throughout the first 12 months of your tenure.  It is an exciting opportunity to join our South Flank leadership team, utilising your leadership experience to drive results whilst fostering a safe working environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be an impactful leader and an advocate for our BHP values; Safety, Inclusion and Diversity.  Your previous experience in leading large teams will be highly regarded.  A background from an open pit-mining environment including large-scale expansions or start-ups will be highly advantageous.

A proven track record in safety management and leading teams to contribute to a zero harm culture along with good working knowledge of Mine Safety & Inspection Act & Regulations will also see you succeed in this role.

What we offer you

Working on our new South Flank operation, we will provide you an environment where health and wellbeing are seen as a pre-requisite for safety and production. People are empowered, collaboration enabled and teams are connected to the strategy and plan. Our workforce is flexible, inclusive and diverse.

This role will be based on a foundation roster of 5 days on, 2 days off / 4 days on, 3 days off / 9 days on, 5 days off and is fly-in-fly-out of Perth.

Please note, screening and interviews may take place prior to the advertised close date.

Important:  The safety of BHP’s people and our candidates is our number one priority.  To protect the health and safety of vulnerable persons in line with current Government advice, you may be asked to undergo a COVID-19 related health assessment.  Due to the unfolding circumstances of COVID-19 and the Government regulations in place to deal with the pandemic, your working location and/or roster as advertised in this advert may be temporarily subject to change whilst the government regulations are in place.  These measures are to ensure the health safety of our workforce, and to implement effective social distancing measures.  Where applicable these measures will be discussed in the recruitment process.
