The Superintendent Small Projects and Modifications role is responsible for managing the site Capital Project activities through the Identification, Selection, Define and Execution Project Phases. A key component of the role is development of future Capital Project plans at the Kalgoorlie smelter and Kambalda concentrator. The role will work closely with both operations and maintenance departments in providing guidance and development of capital plans and longer term initiatives. The role will report to the Engineering Manager.    
The responsibilities of the role will be for the Kalgoorlie smelter and Kambalda concentrator plants and as such the appointee’s time will need to be spent on site. This role will be classified as a residential role. Duties of this role will include:
  • Manage the capital development and 5 Year capital planning process;
  • Set and maintain standards and provide project management governance on all site projects;
  • Manage, lead and develop a team of Project Managers and Construction Supervisors;
  • Assist in the identification and develop key initiatives and projects to improve recovery, throughput and acceptable feed concentrate ranges;
  • Function across departments to align initiatives to a common goal;
  • Manage the overall site Capital Project budgeting and forecasting process;
  • Guide and participate in risk management activities.

About You

  • Degree in engineering;
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in an engineering field with good exposure to capital projects;
  • Solid understanding of project management principles and experience in project development and delivery;
  • Experience in leading a team of multi-functional disciplines;
  • Understanding of commercial context in operations environment which drive financial decisions;
  • Good networking abilities to co-ordinate, build and influence business partners;
  • Strong ability to coordinate multiple stakeholder groups to align and collect information;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with demonstrated ability to synthesise information for technical and business audiences;
  • Competent in working effectively with Project management processes (scheduling, cost management, reporting);
  • Proactive approach, demonstrates strong leadership capabilities and committed to striving towards high standards;
  • Embraces and drives BHP Billiton’s commitment to safety.

Nickel West Kalgoorlie Kalgoorlie is the largest inland city in Western Australia and due to its central location is positioned at the heart of the Goldfields as a vibrant mining town and a major gateway to the Eastern States. Although fairly isolated, the City of Kalgoorlie/Boulder offers modern shopping facilities, a huge variety of sports, and schooling for all ages up to high school. Nickel West Kalgoorlie incorporates a flash furnace smelter, converters and an acid plant which has the capacity to produce up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of nickel matte.
