About the role

Reporting to the Manager Engineering, this role will see you provide team leadership and functional expertise to drive world class delivery of the Earth Moving Equipment (EME) portfolio across all the BMA Operations (including all mining equipment, from shovels, trucks, diggers and all ancillary equipment).

This role plans, controls and executes the sourcing and procurement of all EME capital purchases, including delivering to project requirements in line with the capital budget, and ensures they are matched with the market conditions and business requirements. You will be responsible for scheduling and prioritizing all EME replacements in the 5 year plan and 2 year budget and initiating project contracts and sourcing strategic solutions for Engineering Projects.

You will lead the strategic sourcing and scheduling for the BMA portfolio from negotiation and execution of supplier contracts and also lead initiatives improving project management and cross functional engagements and alignment. 

In this role you will:
  • Lead your team in the delivery of safe work practices that comply with the sites Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).
  • Responsible for the overarching procurement and Project Management strategy of the BMA EME portfolio, including the review of supplier performance, relationships and trading terms;
  • Provide up to date capital and operating spend analysis and improvement recommendations to leadership;
  • Identify and minimize potential commercial risk in line with capital budget;
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure capital forecasting is available and reviewed to drive the best outcome;
  • Challenge and coach a high performing team through KPI/objective setting and development as well as mentoring;
  • Ensure that contracts for materials, services and overhauls are negotiated, managed and delivered to meet the requirements of the organisation, including accuracy, quality and time;
  • Provide input into the BMA 5 year capital plan and the development of the 2 year capital budget for the sites, and ensure all works are executed according to the plan;
  • Oversee feasibility studies, cost-benefits analyses, impact assessments and project business cases to obtain the required project approvals;
  • Monitor understanding and application of Project Management processes within the team to support compliance with Site requirements and GLDs.
  • Ensure compliance to Engineering Standards for all newly procured plant and equipment across the operation
  • Manage the Change Control process for all modifications and improvements to Infrastructure and Earthmoving equipment from Draglines and Shovels through the effective execution of projects and ensure all documents are managed in accordance with the blueprint standard;
  • Support the maintenance of the Blueprint and technical document control systems;
  • Manage costs to budget and be accountable for regular forecasting and rectifying variances
  • Ensure all purchases are aligned to the BMA Standardization agenda
  • Drive continuous improvement
  • Have a thorough understanding of the supply chain constraints and bottlenecks and the ability to deliver projects that are aligned with the medium to major project management framework.

  • You will be action oriented and strategically focused with superior problem solving, decision making and influencing skills.
  • You will have a detailed understanding of project management, engineering principles, standards and processes.
  • You will need to be tertiary qualified in Engineering or have equivalent trade and industry experience to support the technical support requirements of the role as well as strong mentoring skills.
  • Mining industry and SAP experience will be an advantage.
