About the role

Our Operation


Olympic Dam is unique in many ways.  The deposit is a truly world class IOGC asset comprising Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. Olympic Dam is an underground mine with a combination of FIFO and residential workforce, supported by the Roxby Downs township.


This is an Adelaide based position with site travel required.


About the role


As part of the Planning & Technical Function, the Superintendent Resource Geology supports the Manager Geosciences by working collaboratively with other Planning & Technical departments and Site Operational and Studies teams to support the long-life, low-cost, safe operation of Olympic Dam through exceptional resource estimation and modelling.

In this role you will:
  • Lead mineral resource development planning
  • Review and validate all geological inputs to resource modelling
  • Ensure 3D geological interpretations and estimates deliver the correct technical information to the relevant planning horizon (e.g. five year plan, Study, Life of Asset) on time
  • Develop, deliver and maintain the geological modelling & estimation schedule to deliver fit-for-purpose resource estimates
  • Manage contractors and service providers to develop geological understanding
  • Generate JORC compliant resource reports that support BHP public reporting and internal governance obligations
  • Deliver internal Resource Ranging Analysis and Annual Potential Mineralisation reporting
  • Complete risk assessments and maintain a Technical Risk Register that records appropriate mitigating controls to drive prioritisation of continuous improvement work
  • Effectively communicate risk and uncertainty to stakeholders
  • Prepare and manage Resource Geology business improvement and budget plans
  • Ensure all technical processes are in line with internal Geoscience Standards
  • Ability and willingness to become Competent Person for Mineral Resource reporting at Olympic Dam
  • Establish effective and collaborative interfaces across all internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Develop capability of the Resource Geology team and develop & maintain a Resource Geology competency framework for Olympic Dam
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and support to team members broadly across the Geoscience function
  • Establish a culture of collaborative Continuous Improvement as part of core routines inside of, and with key stakeholders to the Resource Geology team
  • Participate in and coordinate delivery of information to internal and external Mineral Resource governance reviews

About You

  • Experience as a Geology leader in the resource sector with underground experience advantageous
  • Significant experience in 3D geological modelling and linear resource estimation and non-linear resource estimation experience advantageous
  • Strong understanding of technical geological risk, with the ability to ensure geological interpretations and / or estimates are fit-for-purpose and meet stakeholder requirements
  • Proven ability to influence, coach and mentor others and develop and build a cohesive, high-performing team
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage aspects of model planning while engaging with stakeholders to ensure a product is delivered to appropriate timeframes
  • Promote a culture of health and safety
  • Geological modelling experience with Vulcan, Datamine and Leapfrog is highly desirable
  • Willingness to travel to site fortnightly and travel nationally as required
