About the role

  • Support the Manager Shaft Delivery in the execution the Jansen Project Shaft program
  • Zero Harm – Lead a team of supervisors and manage contractors to ensure this is achieved.  Includes Field Leadership, sufficient planning and all safety aspects of management plan
  • Support the field leadership program by coaching field leadership activities with the management team of the contractor
  • Planning – ensure that the contractors work is well planned (to BHP expectations) and developed adequately to enable Safe and Efficient execution
  • Communication – liaise with all stakeholders to ensure alignment and support of the lining works
  • Execution – oversee the execution of the shaft lining including mobilization, setup and demobilization.
  • Contract Management – ensure the works are executed safely, efficiently.
  • Ensure project procedures during the construction phase are effective and followed
  • Maintain working relationships and regularly update Functional Reps (Technical/HSEC/IR)
  • Monitor and report on contractor and sub-tier contractor construction activities to ensure they are performing to contract and quality requirements
  • In coordination with BHP HSE personnel, ensure contractor safety and environmental plans are developed to BHP Billiton standards and adhered to by the contractor,
  • Assist in providing coordination between contractor, owner, and other service providers.
  • Attend site meetings and report/resolve issues when required.
  • Support the permits to work program as scope owner, and audit contractors to ensure their compliance to permit requirements.
  • Ensure all work by the contractor is done in accordance with BHP risk processes
  • Support the Manager Shaft Delivery on all execution related matters.
  • Act as Duty manager for shaft related incidents (participate in the emergency response process) 
  • Lead/drive all investigations and subsequent actions through to completion per BHP standards

About You

  • Mine site construction expertise preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in general field supervision / construction management roles, 5 of which are in a supervisory capacity
  • Considerable knowledge of the OH & SA and Mining regulations
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and schedules
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and achieve deadlines
