About the role

Reporting to the EW,GR and Labs Production Superintendent, you will lead and develop the OD Final Products team including GD/MS, Water / Enviro, Metbal and Refinery team members.

The supervisor role has the responsibility for managing all aspects of shift performance, including providing a safe working environment, achieving budget targets, promoting continuous improvement, reviewing work practices, controlling costs, prioritising training needs and opportunities, completing investigations on safety / Laboratory issues and actively managing employee performance.   Responsibilities will include, but not are limited to:
  • Ensure all safe work systems, procedures and standards are adhered to through frequent inspection of the workplace (Field Leadership);
  • Review, manage and investigate safety and quality incidents in accordance with BHP policies;
  • Facilitate and participate in workplace investigations as required and provide adequate documentation;
  • Ensure the laboratory provides a quality service to all clients;
  • Responsible for laboratory quality, final products, environmental and radiochemical analyses;
  • Responsible for final products, quality, training  and day analysts;
  • Ensure personnel allocated to tasks are appropriately trained and competent to perform required work;
  • Lead the implementation and monitor effectiveness of improvement initiatives;
  • Build relationships with other departments and employees to ensure problems are addressed and resolved effectively in a timely manner;
  • Ensure personnel allocated to tasks are appropriately trained, ticketed and competent to perform required work;
  • Apply financial management in relation to team operations and budgets;
  • Lead, coach and mentor team members to ensure delivery against performance targets;
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is operational and maintained;
  • Liasing with metallurgists to meet customer requirements.

About You

You will be degree/diploma qualified in Science/Chemistry and possess relevant experience in an Analytical Laboratory and have a broad understanding of the mining and processing industry.  Other qualities and experience may include:
  • Leadership, management and planning;
  • Quality Control & Quality Assurance;
  • Trace analysis;
  • Equipment - XRF, AAS, ICP, GDMS, Arc Spark, IC, Eltra and GC.
