About the role

Join BHP and Olympic Dam, a safe, reliable, globally competitive business delivered by our people in Adelaide, South Australia. Olympic Dam is one of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation. Olympic Dam is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. This role is based in Adelaide, a vibrant, cultured, friendly environment to live, work and play in. The role requires regular site travel to Roxby downs to meet with key operational stakeholders. 
We are currently seeking a Finance Business Partner (FBP) to support Olympic Dam’s Surface Operations which includes the processing, smelting and refining activities to produce our products. The role reports to the Head of Finance and is key to drive business outcomes and provide a commercial lens from long term strategic direction to short term tactical decision making.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Act with a business owner mindset with their operational colleagues and seek to understand and optimise the value chain.
  • Through a commercial lens, understand competitor performance and benchmarks that indicate what’s possible to inform decisions and set targets
  • Frame value opportunities and own business cases from formation to approval and provide valuation support.
  • Given the breadth of improvement required at operations, focus on coaching operational leaders through creation and validation of improvement opportunities.
  • Cross functional deployment as the ‘value coach’ to the Engage & Aspire (E&A) phase of our BHP Operating System deployment to support an analytical and methodical approach to distil symptoms of problems into root causes and drive the completion  of gap closing solutions for the business.
  • Attend operational leadership routines to systemically prioritise improvement opportunities, provide a commercial lens and drive business performance and risk mitigation strategies to ensure operational stability. Assist the operation effectively prioritise where effort and capital should be deployed.
  • FBPs hand off necessary budget, forecasting and reporting activities to the Planning & Analytics scrum (P&A). The P&A scrum consists of planners and analysts who provide budgeting, forecasting and analytical support.


About You

You are an enthusiastic, confident self-starter who is able to work independently and as part of a team. With either an Accounting, Engineering or Finance degree (or both) you will have previous experience in a similar role. Your strong technical understanding of budgeting, forecasting and management accounting, will support your operational understanding and enable you to add value through financial insight. Strong attention to detail and critical thinking will be key to your success, as will your ability to achieve deadlines and problem solve.
