About the role

Provide leadership, management and expertise in technical aspects relating to Legacy Assets. Prioritize robust technical characterization of the sites to underpin operations, studies and business plans. This includes hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, water stewardship and environmental aspects. Coordinate and report characterisation activities done by site, projects and others. Champion standards and guidelines such as environment, water, climate, acid/metalliferous rock drainage.

In this role you will:

  • Define and scope site investigation plans relating to water and environment for closure at a variety of sites across multiple jurisdictions. Evaluate results and provide models and data to support closure projects, operations plans.
  • Works closely with operations/projects who execute investigations.
  • Investigations annual spend $1M to $10M.
  • Engages multiple stakeholders during investigation, including consultants.
  • Ensure investigations accuracy level support purpose of use.
  • Contributes to all activities for budgeting, closure scope and plans including opportunity assessment, life of asset, annual, 2 year and 5 year budgets. 
  • Ensure department has appropriate capability for effectively delivering investigations. 
  • Benchmark performance against other Assets within BHPB and review these and internal lessons learnt annually.
  • Align to current industry best practice.

About You

  • Experience in management and responsibility for multiple disciplinary teams
  • Developed communication skills to negotiate internally and externally at high levels
  • Solid interpersonal skills to interact and effectively manage consultants and stakeholders. 
  • Significant expertise in site investigation and characterisation.
  • Prior experience dealing with stakeholders and organizations across multiple jurisdictions. 
  • Minimum of 10-15 years in designing and leading environmental programs and projects including site characterization, remediation studies, and mine reclamation.
  • Broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles in multiple disciplines across the fields of environmental characterization and remedial investigations, closure, operations, legal, regulatory , safety
  • Geoscience, Environmental or Engineering background.
