About the role

Operations Services (OS) continually invests in the development of its people including those working at the front-line of its mining operations. Training is an essential element of this including a range of site and project competency requirements, upskilling support and resources for Mastery and the systems required to optimise the value obtained from training delivery and management within OS.

Building and maintaining comprehensive programs for Apprenticeships and Traineeships are key to our business as we continue to skill the workforce of the future.  The Coordinator Apprenticeships Training role will support the Superintendent Apprenticeship Training with administration, planning, reporting and adherence to governance processes.

Reporting to the Superintendent Apprenticeship Training the Trainer Apprenticeship will provide training to the Apprentices and Trainees within the Operations Services model.

The work of this role will encompass:

  • Liaising closely with Superintendent Apprenticeships Training and Specialist Apprenticeships Training and Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to understand the training & competency requirements for apprentices and trainees.
  • Determine training & assessment requirements for each apprenticeship and traineeship. 
  • Implement training & assessment tools in a thorough and high quality manner in order to train apprentices/trainees where required and verify & assess their competency levels.
  • Work with the Coordinator – Apprenticeship training to ensure all records are managed and systems are kept up to date with progress and records of completion.
  • Work with the Superintendent and Specialist Apprenticeships and relevant site teams to review training materials and provide recommendations for improvements (i.e. quality, effectiveness, relevance, alignment to standards and the work tasks etc.)
  • Collaborating with training leaders in other relevant BHP groups to enable maximum use of existing training systems and resources.
  • Continuous monitoring of apprenticeships training services performance and initiating the necessary input or support to ensure these services are achieving their objectives.

About You

  • Strong experience and background in working in an operational technical environment within mining or heavy industry.
  • Trade qualifications in relevant trade for Maintenance traineeships/apprenticeships.
  • Extensive experience with equipment operation for Production traineeships.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment desirable.
  • A continuous improvement focus that identifies opportunities for improving processes, creating efficiencies and designing capability improvement.
  • Comprehensive understanding of VET legislative and internal compliance requirements.
  • Exposure to audit processes and governance frameworks.
  • High level interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong partnerships across a range of stakeholders both external and internal.
  • Willingness to lead and implement change, as well as influence, coach and model BHP values and behaviours.
  • Diversity of thought and practical experience will be embraced.
  • Current qualification or skill sets in Training & Assessment.
  • Ability to train/assess a wide variety of learning styles and cater for language, literacy & numeracy requirements as well as other learning needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships across a range of team members and stakeholders.
