About BHP

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential. With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities.  Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success. Come and be a part of this success.

About the role

BHP Coal has a well-established facility in the heart of Brisbane - the Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC).  This world-class control centre is making a significant contribution to ensuring our Coal operations continue to improve performance in a sustainable way by coordinating the near-term scheduling, planning and controlling of our Coal Operations from a central location.   In keeping with our Company values, the IROC control centre assists in creating a team environment where sustainability, integrity, respect, performance, simplicity and accountability take priority.

IROC has two great new opportunities for dynamic Training Specialists to join the team.  As a Training Specialist, you will work on a back-to-back day roster with the other Training Specialist to deliver a training framework that result in consistency in competency assessment and improved production outcomes across the IROC team. Your responsibilities will also include:
  • Ensuring all Controllers are compliant in the role they are undertaking;
  • Assisting the Training Coordinator in the onboarding process of new Controllers;
  • Actively update training material to ensure the material reflects current state and remains of a high standard;
  • Maintaining records of completed training and escalate issues of non-compliance to the Supervisor;
  • Delivering training through different modes ie. self-paced modules, presentation, in control seat, small groups;
  • Ensuring that feedback is facilitated regularly and on an ongoing basis with Controllers, site based Training Specialists and Supervisors;
  • Assisting and supporting audits of on the job training and assessing to ensure that training standards are met;  and
  • Escalating need for external training to Training Coordinator where required.

About You

Ideally, you will be a Trainer Assessor with good experience working in control systems in mining or in a related industry where you are at superior level of control competency.  By nature, you are at ease in working with a range of stakeholders and enjoy training and mentoring people to achieve great results and continue to build a positive team environment.  You will also be a strong communicator with first class presentation skills and you have good listening skills that help you in knowing when and how to adapt your message.

Supporting a diverse workforce

At BHP, we recognise that we are strengthened by diversity. We are committed to providing a work environment in which everyone is included, treated fairly and with respect. We are an Equal Opportunity employer and we encourage applications from women and Indigenous people.

We know there are many aspects of our employees’ lives that are important, and work is only one of these, so we offer benefits to enable your work to fit with your life.  These benefits include flexible working options, a generous paid parental leave policy, other extended leave entitlements and parent rooms.
