About the role

Reporting to the Group Sales and Marketing Officer, the Vice President Sales & Marketing (Metals) leads the global team accountable for the revenue line of our Metals Portfolio, including Copper, Nickel, Zinc, Uranium and Molybdenum. As the most senior executive role in Sales and Marketing Metals, this role is responsible for the interactions with senior stakeholders, including customers, internal stakeholders, regulatory and international bodies.
This key Sales and Marketing Leadership role is: 
  • Accountable for the development and execution of the Marketing strategy, in line BHP Commercial strategies.
  • Accountable for the P&L of our Metals portfolio, including Copper, Nickel, Zinc, Uranium and Molybdenum, overseeing negotiations and ensuring consistency of tactical approach across the globe
  • Establishes strong relationships with the Asset leadership team, being the key operational contact point for the Asset Presidents and General Managers. The Vice President Sales and Marketing is the Marketing’s representative at the Asset Leadership Teams across our Assets in Minerals Americas and Minerals Australia.
  • Providing leadership and direction to the Customer Liaison teams to drive customer centricity, owning global customer relationships, interactions, and outcomes across multiple customer regions and markets. 
  • Ensures that the Book Management teams deliver effectively on the tactical plans, focusing on value optimisation, supply chain management from Mine to Customers and delivering against key commercial metrics.
  • Ensures collaboration between Marketing and BHP Marketing Analysis and Economics, to form our market views and enable value-adding commercial decisions.
  • Ensures collaboration with BHP Maritime, to ensure the sustainable and reliable delivery of our products to the market. 
  • Engages with BHP Portfolio, Strategy and Development team (PS&D) in specific projects.
  • Involved in strategic capital decisions across the portfolio.
  • Enhances the commercial acumen and approach to active risk management across Sales and Marketing within a defined risk appetite framework.
  • Driving adherence to all relevant external and internal performance standards, Group and Business Level requirements and statutory legislation.
  • Managing relationships with Joint Venture Partners and external regulatory bodies.
  • Leading, developing, motivating and coaching a globally dispersed team to achieve goals and builds an engaged and inclusive culture. 
  • Is BHP Marketing representative with international bodies such as the London Metal Exchange Physical Advisory Committee, the International Copper Association and the International Wrought Copper Council
  • As part of the Sales and Marketing Leadership team, the Vice President Sales and Marketing (Metals) plays a leadership role across the broader BHP Commercial team.

About You

To be successful in this role it is critical that you have
  • Significant experience in Sales & Marketing within global commodity markets, which includes extensive experience in the  Copper markets 
  • Strong commercial skills, specifically translating multiple sources of information into value
  • Experience in commodities risk management is advantageous
  • Effective negotiation skills and experience successfully leading complex negotiations
  • Proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders and lead change within the organisation
  • Demonstrated success leading a geographically dispersed commercial team to deliver strong outcomes
  • A deep understanding of Copper technical and commercial value drivers, upstream and downstream
  • Degree or higher qualification in business, economics or a related commercial or technical discipline
  • Proficient Spanish speaking is an advantage
