About the role

Ensuring our potable water & waste water infrastructure is operated, maintained and governed to meet Regulatory, Stakeholder and BHP standards and requirements is important to ensure the health of both our employees and the communities in which we operate. Water production is also critical to enable sustainable mining operations.
The Water Operator role will be responsible for executing activities which ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of critical water & waste water infrastructure in accordance with BHP requirements and operating license parameters.
Reporting to the NPI Supervisor Water & Source Central / Northern, your duties will include:
  • Demonstrating commitment and conformance to the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Work with your Supervisor and in accordance with site operations and maintenance procedures to ensure compliance to achieve the required level of safe drinking water for the respective operating areas.
  • Complete daily sampling and instrument data collection in accordance with the operational procedures.
  • Monitor alarms and escalate as in accordance with site operating plans
  • Assist with the execution of preventative and corrective operational tasks
  • Undertake inventory reviews and place applicable orders for materials in consultation with the Technicians.
  • Complete asset inspections providing detailed feedback to Supervisor on in field observations.
  • Work with your Supervisor and in accordance with site operations and maintenance procedures to achieve the required level of safe drinking water
  • Perform preventative and corrective operational tasks to ensure reliable and safe operations of treatment plants which can include, nano filtration, reverse osmosis, cartridge filters, multi-media filters, activated carbon, UV disinfection gas and liquid chlorination & electro-chlorination.
  • Understand bore fields layouts and processes
  • Monitor operational trends and escalate operational issues with respective water and source supervisor to ensure timely close out
  • Troubleshoot operational performance issues with Water Supervisor and develop improvement strategies where required
  • Be part of an on call roster and attend to callouts and breakdowns as required.
You will be based at the Non Process Infrastructure (NPI) office located at our Central Pilbara (Mining Area C /Northern/ Yandi) Operations on a 8/6 fly-in fly-out roster from Perth. In the NPI team you would be working alongside dedicated and outcome focused employees that proactively approach the challenges they face. The team is focused on achieving the intention of our company charter in every job and challenges are seen as opportunities for improvement.
Our Pilbara operations are world class and consists of mines near Newman, which includes the 'Mount Whaleback' mine site, which at more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide is the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world.
