About the Role
Provides delivery team leadership and direction throughout studies and the execution phase to deliver the approved business objectives, within the constraints of scope, time, quality and budget. Identifies and manages project-related Health, Safety and Security (HSS), Environment, Employee Relations (ER), Community and project risk. Leads development of execution strategy and translates this into operational plans
Key Accountabilities:
- Leads and manages the execution phase of the project (including pre-commitments), ensuring compliance with internal and external governance and Global Standard requirements to deliver safely within approved quality, schedule, cost, and business case KPIs.
- Owns and develops the project delivery and execution strategy, plans, and controllable cost and schedule baselines, working closely with Development Function to ensure seamless transition into Execution Phase and Operations.
- Leads the development and implementation of project delivery strategies, methodologies, systems and execution plans which minimise waste and preserve project value. Explores best fit solutions, takes ownership of project decisions and manages impacts to value across the project lifecycle.
- Identifies, assesses and manages project risk, communicates risks to relevant stakeholders, makes risk informed decisions to identify solutions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
- Monitors project performance and drives best-value decisions, ensuring deviations are effectively managed, mitigated, and rectified to maintain delivery against KPIs.
- Ensures resource capability, availability, and allocation, while managing team performance and contributing to broader talent planning.
- Builds and maintains strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring alignment of priorities, clear communication, and minimal operational disruption across tie-ins, testing, start-up, and ramp-up.
- Leads performance and governance of delivery by 3rd parties, including participation in tendering, evaluation, contract award, and acting as Company Representative during execution.
- Enables effective cross-functional collaboration, ensuring access to skilled resources, fit-for-purpose processes, and integrated delivery of scope, quality, cost, and schedule outcomes.
- Leads and implements improvement initiatives to enhance capital efficiency and productivity, fostering a continuous improvement culture where lessons learned and best practices are actively shared across the project and broader BHP portfolio.
About You
- Experience in major projects within a Queensland mining context.
- Demonstrated track record of delivery, with clear examples of project outcomes and impact.
- Engineering qualification (any discipline) desirable, however not essential.
- Proven project leadership experience in resources or heavy industry, with the ability to apply technical and project management expertise to lead teams across engineering, projects, standards, and governance, delivering safe and positive business outcomes; strong understanding of project lifecycle and value drivers across varying project sizes and complexity.
- Strong stakeholder engagement capability, with the ability to influence, constructively challenge, and build trusted relationships.
- Demonstrated change management and culture-building capability.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels.
- Sound understanding of key business and mining industry performance drivers.
