2026 BHP Geology Intern Program

At BHP, we believe the best tomorrow is built through working, learning and innovating together and through this connection, building your skills for now, and the future. Come and join us in the 2026 Geology Intern Program.

Please note: If you are studying Mining, or other disciplines, please submit your application to the relevant advert at careers.bhp.com. Only one application is required.

Geology Internship
If you're studying geology and want to see your learning come to life in the field, a BHP Geology Internship is the perfect place to start. Geology is fundamental to everything we do, from understanding ore bodies and modelling resources, to shaping mine designs, supporting safe operations and guiding long‑term planning.

As an intern, you’ll work alongside geologists and technical specialists who play a critical role in how we discover, develop and operate our mines, giving you real insight into the science that drives decision‑making across BHP.

Degrees we consider (including but not limited to):

  • Geology / Geological Sciences
  • Earth Sciences / Environmental Earth Science
  • Geophysics
  • Geoscience or Applied Geoscience

About the Role
You’ll spend 10–12 weeks at one of our operational sites over the summer, gaining hands‑on experience and learning from the people who keep our business running. You’ll work with graduates, technical specialists and fellow interns while building skills and connections that support your career. You’ll meet leaders across the business and gain early exposure to the scale of the resources sector, with many interns later joining our Graduate Program or returning for additional internships depending on their stage of study.

Working arrangements differ across our assets, and opportunities can be FIFO roles or based locally near our mining operations, depending on the location. We encourage you to consider the opportunities and lifestyle each working arrangement offers when applying.

This program is all about potential, gaining real experience, exploring career pathways and discovering where you could grow next.

What We Are Looking For
We’re looking for students who are curious about the earth, eager to learn, and ready to apply their geological knowledge in operational environments. You’ll be someone who enjoys investigating how rock formations, structures and ore bodies influence mining, asks thoughtful questions, and is motivated to see how geological principles translate into real‑world decisions on site and a curiosity for the solutions that will help build a better world.

To be successful as a Geology Intern, you’ll bring:

  • A genuine interest in geology and how geological models, ground conditions, resource understanding and structural interpretation support safe and productive mining operations.
  • Strong analytical and observational skills, with the ability to interpret field data, think critically and contribute to geological insights and improvement ideas.
  • A commitment to safety, recognising that understanding the ground and its behaviour is fundamental to safe operations and sound geological practice.
  • Adaptability and resilience, as you’ll work in both field‑based and office‑based settings across dynamic operational environments.
  • Clear communication and teamwork, enabling you to collaborate effectively with geologists, engineers and operational teams.

To be eligible, you’ll be in your second to penultimate year of a Geology Engineering (or geology aligned) degree and available to complete a 10–12-week internship over the 2026/27 summer period.

This internship is ideal for students who want to explore how mining works in practice, gain exposure to different stages of the mining lifecycle, and see what a future career with BHP’s Geology Graduate Program could look like.
