About the Role:

BHP's copper province in South Australia (Copper SA) comprises the Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill and Carrapateena underground mines, with smelter and refinery complex at Olympic Dam. The company is also progressing the Oak Dam exploration prospect. This role will support the transition of Carrapateena to Block Cave mining method with potential opportunity for exposure to other assets.

 

Location: Adelaide Office (occasional site travel)
Roster: 5 days on; 2 days off

In This Role You Will:

  • Develop mine plan scenarios for Block Cave production - macro-block extents, shutoff grade, fines entry and Height of Draw assessment and sensitivity.
  • Assist with the delivery of the Life of Asset (LOA) mine plans. This will be achieved through close engagement with our wider Mining Technical & Technology team, Operations teams and our numerous mining contract partners.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive a quality mine plan.
  • Support for mine planning trade-off studies for opportunity enhancement and threat mitigation.
  • Developing processes for reconciliation.
  • Supporting the Competent Person Ore Reserves.
  • Complete management of change documentation.

About You:

  • A commitment to developing safety leadership.
  • Experience in underground mining technical roles (geology, geotechnical or mining) with an interest in the relationship between resource/orebody knowledge and cave flow/production scheduling.
  • Experience in cave flow/ production scheduling highly regarded but not essential (PCBC).
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant technical discipline (mining, geology, geotechnical).
  • Ability to interact successfully with multiple internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work to multiple deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform QAQC processes to ensure confidence in the mine plan.
  • Interest in reconciliation processes.
  • Deswik.CAD and PGCA experience is an advantage.
