BHP WA Major Projects is seeking a Construction Manager for a project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.  

 

The role focuses on leading construction execution to enable successful delivery of complex project scopes within safety, quality and schedule requirements.  

 

About the Role 

 

As the Construction Manager and Site Senior Executive you will provide leadership and direction across construction activities, ensuring constructability is embedded early and that execution is optimised to achieve safe and efficient outcomes. You will ensure site setup occurs in compliance with applicable legislation and in a way that enables our contracting partners and BHP self perform teams to be successful. Your team will effectively manage interfaces and ensure that contractor partners deliver their works in alignment with project execution strategies, the health and safety management system, and quality processes. 

 

You will lead an owners team of construction superintendents and supervisors. Close collaboration and excellent engagement with key stakeholders internal and external to the project and the company will be essential for success.  

 

All will be done with conformance to the BHP Charter, the BHP Business Requirements, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations and documents, and with an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development. 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Define and implement construction strategy, standards, processes, systems, and plans. 
  • Build and lead a high-performing construction team with required technical capability. 
  • Manage the execution of construction methodologies, strategies and plans in accordance with the defined project execution plan, construction strategy and construction management plan. Manage construction contractors to meet the requirements in these plans. 
  • Confirm all statutory and required third party construction permits are in place and that conditions associated with them are adhered to 
  • Manage assurance and governance activities associated with construction works, ensuring EPCs, EPCMs and construction contractors are executing work following the owners’ standards and procedures 
  • Implement construction-owned risk and oversight the quality management plans to ensure effective management of the construction scope of work 
  • Monitor project/program progress, so that any deviations that may impact the construction activities can be managed and the effects minimised, and to ensure that deliverables have been successfully completed 
  • Manage communication interfaces with operational leaders and provide interface between them and construction contractors to ensure that final customer needs are met 
  • Work with contractors on construction philosophy, schedule definition, labour relations plans, fabrication/procurement plans and sourcing strategies 
  • Work in alignment with the BHP Operating System and coaching of your team to ensure their success in doing so  
  • Provide leadership to the extended project team onsite to foster an inclusive, engaged and high performing culture

About You

 

You will bring deep experience in construction management including within mining, major projects, or heavy industry. You will be an inclusive leader skilled in contractor management, engineering integration, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. You demonstrate sound judgement, forward organisation and planning, effective communication, problem-solving capability, and the ability to drive safe and high-performance outcomes. 

 

Qualifications & Experience 

 

  • Site Senior Executive qualification  
  • Extensive experience leading construction within major resources or heavy industry projects. 
  • Experience managing contractors. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage complex interfaces. 
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or related field (desirable). 

 

Location & Work Environment 

 

Fly in, fly out role to a Pilbara mine site location with Perth as base of hire. Roster of 2 weeks on, 1 week off. Flexible work options available on request.
