About BHP Portfolio Strategy and Development in Manila
The Decision Evaluation team’s is part of our BHP Portfolio Strategy & Development (PS&D) department.
Our purpose is to lead decision evaluation activities across the Company to enable better, faster investment decisions, ensuring the value of every business decision is clear. We achieve this by being trusted advisors for the most important investment decisions and by embedding investment evaluation best practices, capabilities and technology across the organisation. To maximise our influence, we operate in a collaborative and commercially astute way.
Decision Evaluation strengthens BHP’s “License to Invest” by supporting BHP’s Assets and Functions with their capital allocation proposals and decisions. Our support for the Portfolio Strategy & Development function also includes involvement in corporate strategy, corporate planning, business development, and execution of transactions.
About the Roles
We are seeking motivated professionals to join BHP’s Portfolio Strategy & Development team in our Manila Office for Principal and Specialist roles. You will work closely with other PS&D teams around the globe, providing investment and decision evaluation services on some of BHP’s most material investment decisions.
Together you will support PS&D’s ambition to provide independent, robust and high-quality evaluations of proposed investment opportunities, taking into account risk and uncertainty.
Reporting to Manager Decision Evaluation, your accountabilities include:
- Test and audit models built by other users and providing other quality assurance services.
- Research and analyse of market-based information to provide benchmarking inputs.
- Develop and continuously improve a set of economic model templates and accompanying modelling standards and training materials.
- Design and build standardised economic models.
- Use economic models to evaluate investment decisions, including transactions (M&A), capital projects and commercial commitments.
- Use models to produce analysis and insights to support evaluation of investment decisions.
- Centrally hold the Corporate Model, and responsibility for updates and Expert Services requirements for the model.
- Validate, consolidate and analyse Asset submissions and carry out the corporate valuation work.
- Carry out supporting work and analysis required for corporate valuations including year on year reconciliation.
About You
As a successful candidate, you’ll bring the following qualities to our team:
- Demonstrated experience in analytical modelling and investigative skills with a commercial and continuous improvement mind set.
- Degree qualification with post qualification experience in financial modelling and/or valuations and/or financial analysis.
- Strong understanding of the key drivers of shareholder value, corporate finance concepts and the practical application of these to discounted cash flow modelling.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, with a specific focus on best practice economic modelling. Also experienced in Microsoft Word and Power Point
- Self-guided, independent, able to work autonomously and strives for continuous improvement.
- Intellectually curious, with a high-quality mindset.
- Advanced level of English, both verbal and written.
- While not mandatory, we’d love to see experience in financial analysis from major consulting firms (especially Big 4) or an investment banking background. Having a technical undergraduate degree along with a financial postgraduate qualification (like an MBA) that focuses on valuation would be a fantastic bonus as well
