About the Role
Broadmeadow is located in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people, 34 kilometres north of Moranbah. It is a longwall underground coal operation. Coal is processed jointly with coal from the Goonyella Riverside open cut operation.
Broadmeadow is seeking qualified, safety-focused Explosion Risk Zone (ERZ) Controllers to join the team. Working a 7/7 afternoon/night roster, you will be responsible for all aspects of health and safety in your zone/s while providing coaching and mentoring to your team to ensure delivery against performance targets.
If successful in this role, you could be assigned to longwall, development, outbye or supporting roles, depending on your experience and the mine’s scheduling needs.
Key responsibilities:
- Supervise coal mine workers and take control of activities in an Explosion Risk Zone within the mine
- Carry out inspections of an Explosion Risk Zone, assessing if the zone is safe for operations, covering all matters in Coal Mining Health and Safety legislation
- Direct and oversee all personnel, systems and equipment within the mining zone and outbye areas
- Statutory reporting to the Underground Mine Manager
- Comply with, and audit compliance to, the Safety and Health Management System for the mine
About You
- Hold a current Deputy’s Certificate of Competency in Queensland
- Proven leadership experience in supervising underground coal mining teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams and departments
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the confidence to work independently in a dynamic environment
