About The Role:

 

Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province.  BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.

You’ll be a valued and trusted professional for the Electrical Engineering team and drive initiatives that enable operational excellence. The purpose of the Electrical Engineer is to provide electrical engineering capability & support to manage and optimise assets and processes to ensure Safe, Sustainable and Reliable performance on site. This is to be compliant with regulations and BHP’s policies, procedures and standards.

 

 

Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 4 days on; 3 days off

In this role you will:

 

  • Adequately control and monitor site electrical infrastructure (HV & LV) and ensure compliance to all relevant Australian Standards. 
  • Applying reliability engineering principles, tools and techniques to identify and rank the major production loss/high cost contributors for the process plant equipment. Seen as an expert facilitator/problem solver using a variety of tools.  Specific focus on ensuring that issues are solved completely to their root cause. 
  • Monitor and contribute to maximising the “whole of life cycle” equipment performance. Aims to reduce total costs associated with equipment failures. 
  • Ensures the application of reliability principles to new equipment installations for maximising plant availability at the conceptual and design phases. 
  • Identify, scope, gain approval, design, cost and implement reliability projects with a focus to improve the overall equipment availability in line with business objectives. 
  • Facilitates understanding at execution team and individual level of failure modes, effect and causes. 
  • Act as translator between the language of business (availability, MTBF, Downtime, Utilisation, Root Cause etc.) and the language of the shop floor. 

 

 

About You:

 

  • Strong background in the principles of asset management and reliability of High Voltage systems, not essential to have mining/mineral processing experience 
  • Electrical maintenance practices of Preventative, Corrective and Breakdown tasks through engineering background. 
  • Interpret engineering drawings, OEM equipment specifications and recommendations, condition based monitoring results and maintenance history to influence plant maintenance strategies 
  • Review plant performance parameters of Availability, Utilisation, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Cost 
  • Apply accounting principles to set, track, analyse and revise budgets for maintenance of plant and equipment and projects  
  • Experience in assessing and investigating equipment failure investigations such as Route Cause Analysis (RCA).
