About the Role
We are currently on the look-out for a motivated and capable Emergency Services Officers to join the HSE team at our Mining Area C – South Flank site within Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO).
Reporting to the Security and Emergency Management Supervisor, this role is vital in ensuring that all emergency response activities are performed in a safe, timely and efficient way.
Enthusiasm and commitment to all aspects of medical care and emergency response readiness is critical. You will work as part of a dynamic team, bringing an empathetic and adaptable approach to the immediate and long-term health and safety of others, whilst driving and demonstrating the types of behaviour that set positive examples within BHP and surrounding communities.
Ongoing development of skills and qualifications is expected in maintaining competencies and scope of practice, as well as regular group participation in and planning for training sessions, knowledge sharing and scenario-based activities.
Compliance with BHP medical guidelines and drug protocols is essential and therefore supported by active engagement with colleagues, mentors, training resources and our Clinical Governance team.
Aside from the clinic based and medical aspects of this role, a proactive drive towards continuous training and preparedness for providing urgent assistance alongside our field response team is vital.
Rescue experience in firefighting, ambulance, defence forces or any emergency service will be advantageous to the success of the Emergency Services Officer role.
This is a permanent position, working an 8:6 / 7:7 day and night shift roster, fly in fly out (FIFO) from Perth.
About You
This role will suit a highly capable team player who is motivated to collaborate with site and HSE teams to ensure that everyone goes home safe every day to do the things they love. Above all, your positive attitude and willingness to learn is integral to the success of the team.
You will also have:
- Certificate IV in Health Care or equivalent / higher
- Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue or equivalent / higher to include the following units;
- Provide advanced first aid
- Operate breathing apparatus open circuit
- Conduct fire team operations
- Undertake road crash rescue
- Undertake vertical rescue
- Undertake confined space rescue
- Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident
- Employ personal protection at a hazardous materials incident
- Render hazardous materials incidents safe
- Operate pumps
- Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing
- Minimum of Heavy Rigid (HR) class driver’s license.
- Comprehensive technical understanding of risk management and/or operational mining experience
- Excellent communication skills and interaction experience with personnel, patients, or customer service
- Ability to make effective decisions in rapidly unfolding situations
