We currently have a vacancy for an Electrical Engineer, reporting to the Electrical Engineering Team Lead.
The Challenge Ahead
As an Electrical Engineer within Copper South Australia, you will provide technical expertise that supports safe, compliant, and value-focused outcomes across some of Australia's most significant mining and processing assets.
Working within the Copper SA Engineering function, you will partner with operational, project and technical teams across Olympic Dam, Carrapateena and Prominent Hill to develop engineering designs, provide technical guidance, and support engineering decision making. You will ensure electrical systems and engineering solutions are aligned with applicable standards, regulatory requirements, and BHP engineering governance frameworks.
This role offers exposure to a broad range of electrical engineering activities, including the development and review of engineering designs, technical investigations, engineering risk management, management of change and specialist technical support. You will contribute to the safe design, modification and operation of critical electrical infrastructure while helping build engineering capability across Copper South Australia.
Whether developing designs for new installations and upgrades, reviewing complex engineering packages, assessing technical risks, or providing specialist technical advice on critical electrical systems, your work will directly contribute to safe, sustainable, and reliable engineering outcomes across the Copper SA portfolio.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
You are a collaborative and technically capable Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and partnering with stakeholders to deliver practical outcomes. You combine sound engineering judgement with a strong commitment to safety, technical excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience providing electrical engineering support within mining, heavy industry, processing, manufacturing, infrastructure, or a similarly complex operational environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and engineering risk management.
- Experience developing and reviewing electrical engineering designs, technical assessments, and engineering solutions.
- Experience preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables including calculations, specifications, scopes of work, technical reports, and design documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and deliver practical outcomes.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary teams to support operational, project and improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering practices.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and operational audiences.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide electrical engineering support and technical expertise across Copper South Australia.
- Develop and review electrical engineering designs for new installations, upgrades, modifications, and improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance for the design and modification of electrical systems and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables including calculations, specifications, scopes of work, technical reports, drawings, and design packages.
- Investigate complex electrical engineering issues and provide practical, fit-for-purpose solutions and recommendations.
- Identify and assess engineering risks and provide technical advice to support informed engineering decisions.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver technical solutions and engineering improvements.
- Participate in design reviews, technical assurance activities, and management of change activities.
- Contribute to the development, standardisation and continuous improvement of engineering standards, practices, and technical capability across Copper South Australia.
Work Location
This opportunity is based at our Adelaide Office, South Australia, on a Monday to Friday Roster, with occasional site travel required. The role provides the opportunity to work in a technically complex environment, supporting critical electrical infrastructure and assets that contribute to the production of copper, uranium, gold and silver.
