About the Role

BHP is in search of a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, who can play an integral global role in our resource engineering processes. Primarily located at Brisbane office, you will have the opportunity to work across multiple sites and projects supporting the different BHP regions of Minerals Americas, Minerals Australia and Petroleum. You will have the flexibility with living local in a residential while other work arrangements open for discussion to ensure you enjoy a highly desirable work-life balance.
You will report to the Global Practice Lead Geotechnical and be supported by a highly skilled global geoscience and resource engineering team. You will support the BHP Assets in the implementation of global standards, best practices transfer/replication, amongst other related activities, which enables optimised mine plans for execution and projects.

 

You will also be responsible for the following:

 

•    Promote and contribute to global continuous improvement in geotechnical engineering including strategy, risk management, and value;
•    Development of standards, promote their implementation across the business, and provide assurance;
•    Contribute to the development and execution of a 2nd Line of Defence assurance program against the Global Geotechnical standards;
•    Manage mine geotechnical risks across Technical Centre of Excellence, under the direction of the Global Practice Geotechnical through;
•    Active participation in the development of an internal and external network of geotechnical professionals, and promote a culture of excellence and continuous improvement as a trusted advisor across BHP Regions of Minerals Americas, Minerals Australia and Petroleum;
•    Provide expert advice for independent Peer Reviews and other reviews as required;
•    Contribute to the Technology Roadmap for Geotechnical, including management and/or support for relevant innovation and technology research and initiatives internally and externally;
•    Facilitates global rollout of identified internal best-practice in geotechnical characterisation, analysis, modelling and monitoring; and
•    Facilitates ongoing development of geotechnical management practices through external benchmarking and Continuous Improvement.

About You

We have a strong focus on finding candidates with the right values, leadership, and communication skills.  Your strong stakeholder engagement will foster collaborative working relationships across our Operated and Non-Operated Assets, as well as regional and global technical teams. In addition to demonstrated leadership capability, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focussed attitude.  

The ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and organisational levels to create buy-in and influence outcomes will be highly regarded.

 

Required

 

•    Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
•    Greater than 15 years’ experience in mining, mine services or consultant companies.
•    Geotechnical software analysis skills.
•    Experience (leading or participating) in geotechnical review processes and consultant management, for projects and/or operations.

 

Desirable

 

•    Postgraduate degree (MSc/PhD) in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
•    Experience in similar corporate roles in mining companies, consultancy or mine services companies.
