About Carrapateena
Carrapateena is an underground Sub Level Cave operation, transiting to a Block Cave in future years, extending the mine life beyond 2040. This FIFO operation is located in South Australia, a quick 60-minute flight from Adelaide or 30-minute flight from Port Augusta. Carrapateena is a corner stone of the BHP’s Copper SA portfolio.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Short Term Planning Engineer, you will be joining a team of Mining Engineers responsible Carrapateena’s drill and blast designs and daily coordination of production activities with our Operations team. This dynamic and results-driven role requires a strong focus on safety, production, performance and business improvement.
Location: Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off

In this role you will:

Complete and review drill and blast plans to meet mine production requirements aligned with the weekly schedule.

Liaise with stakeholders to ensure drill and blast designs meet site requirements.

Regular time-in-field (3-4 times a swing) to ensure drill and blast activities are achieved in a safe and efficient manner.

Perform QAQC of production drilling and rise charging to maintain quality and compliance standards.

Review and maintain the Production Management Plan to align with operational objectives and safety standards.

Assist with weekly scheduling of production drilling and bogging activities.

Validate daily production performance data (tonnes, firings, bombs, drill metres) to ensure data integrity.

Undertake QAQC and reconciliation to ensure continuous improvement and optimisation of designed.

Assist with incident investigations and implement actions leading to continuous improvement of the site’s safety performance.

Conduct safety interactions in field aligned with BHP’s Field Leadership model.

Complete hazard identification, rectification and reporting in line with site requirements.
About You
-
Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent.

Experience working in an underground, hard rock, metalliferous mine environment.
-
Proven experience in drill and blast design in Underground Hardrock Mining.

Previous experience in short term scheduling is favourable.

UG practical experience is highly regarded.

Demonstrated ability to be motivated and self-directed to achieve project outcomes.

Strong time management and problem-solving skills.

Experience working in high pressure and dynamic environments.

Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across multiple departments and diverse teams.

A safety leader with demonstrated commitment to health, safety and environment responsibly.

Microsoft Office and Deswik suite software experience is highly regarded.

Valid manual Drivers Licence essential.
