About Carrapateena
Carrapateena is an underground Sub Level Cave operation, transiting to a Block Cave in future years, extending the mine life beyond 2040. This FIFO operation is located in South Australia, a quick 60-minute flight from Adelaide or 30-minute flight from Port Augusta. Carrapateena is a corner stone of the BHP’s Copper SA portfolio.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mining Engineer to join the Short-Term Planning team at Carrapateena, where you will be responsible for delivering the Weekly Schedule. Through collaboration with operations, planning and design teams, you will deliver a schedule that enables safe, efficient and productive mining to achieve our mine vision.
Location: Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on, 6 days off

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time
In this role you will:
- Deliver a rolling two-week mine plan, aligned with 13-week mine schedule and strategic objectives of the mine.
- Liaise with stakeholders to produce an accurate weekly mine plan, ensuring all scheduled activities have been scoped, interactions understood, and integrated into the mine schedule.
- Monitor execution of the week 0 schedule to drive compliance and maintain focus on critical path activities.
- Report on compliance to plan, plan to plan variance, spatial compliance, and support the schedule escalation process through investigation and documentation of variance.
- Facilitate weekly scheduling meetings, including draft, schedule roll-out, and compliance to plan meetings.
- Identify and implement process improvements to benefit our customers and the overall value chain using our BOS principles.
- Be a safety leader, demonstrating your commitment to health, safety and environment responsibly.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Previous experience with mine scheduling and mine planning roles in hard-rock underground mining operations.
- Solid experience in underground mining. Sublevel cave or block cave experience highly regarded.
- Good understanding of ventilation systems and networks.
- Competent in developing planning strategies, identifying and escalating schedule threats, risks and opportunities.
- Completed underground crew work (highly regarded).
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with multiple internal stakeholders, through supportive and effective communication.
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Deswik.CAD (essential), and Deswik.Sched (highly regarded).
- Valid manual Drivers Licence.
