About the Role

 

We currently have an opportunity to join our Heritage, Environment, Approvals and Land Access and Tenure Team as a Principal/Specialist Environment – Approvals in a permanent Perth based role. 

 

The role supports the planning, development and delivery of Environmental Approvals across the Western Australian Nickel business.  Operating within a fully integrated operation currently in temporary suspension, this role focuses on progressing approvals, maintaining compliance frameworks and preparing the asset for future readiness.  Candidates will utilise their excellent relationship building and people skills to deliver fit-for purpose approvals and continuous improvement in environmental management and long term planning.  

 

In this role you will:  

 

Lead the delivery of environment approvals through:

 

  • The preparation and delivery Part V environmental approval documentation for submission to government; 
  • Provide environmental advice to support high quality environmental approval documentation
  • Provide strategic, tactical and technical environmental advice to project teams;
  • Maintaining and continuing to improve business-wide standards for environmental approvals documentation; 
  • Effective collaboration across the business in relation to environmental approvals; 
  • Ensuring that appropriate interaction occurs with government, community and other stakeholders to satisfy environmental approval processes;
  • Working with engineers, consultants and internal functions to ensure adherence to environmental approval schedules;
  • Contributing to key environmental improvement projects; and
  • Aligning deliverables with the BHP Charter, the BHP Our Requirements Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory requirements; 

 

Location

 

The role is offered on a 5:2 roster, however flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance, including options such as flexible hours and hybrid working where appropriate will be considered.  The role is based in the BHP Perth Office reporting directly to Environment Superintendent - Approvals. Travel to our NiW sites may be required from time to time to support execution of supporting work and engage with external stakeholders.

 

About You

 

To be successful in this role you will be able to work both independently and as part of a team.  Attention to detail will be a vital attribute, along with strong business acumen and a passion for excellence.

 

You will also have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering;
  • Knowledge of State and Federal environmental approval requirements within the resources industry.
  • Extensive experience in environmental management and approvals, with experience in the minerals and metals processing; 
  • Experience engaging with Traditional Owner groups on environmental matters;
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills;
  • Ability to build consultative and influential relationships with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management skills; and
  • Sound GIS capabilities will also be highly regarded.
