Lead the Future of Rail at BHP
At BHP, Rail isn’t just a link in the supply chain. It’s the heartbeat of our West Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) operations.
As we look ahead to 2026, we’re reimagining what’s possible. High Performance, Innovation, and collaboration will continue to be at the core of what we do, and we are seeking expressions of interest from talented leaders at multiple levels to come and be part of it!
Our Rail network started in 1966 and from humble beginnings has grown to be one of the largest privately-owned heavy haul networks in the world, spanning over 1,000 kilometres of track and connecting our Pilbara mines to our port facilities in Port Hedland. We own and operate all the track, wayside equipment and rolling stock that runs on our network.
Every year, our trains move hundreds of millions of tonnes of iron ore, operating with precision and scale that provides all the interesting opportunities and technical challenges to rival any major logistics network. We have 5 major depots across the network and these offer a variety of rosters as well as residential or FIFO flexibility.
Whether you are in operations, above or below rail maintenance, engineering, reliability, logistics control or digital systems - this is Rail at its best and we have plenty of exciting opportunities ahead of us.
Over the next few years we will introduce a new CBTC signalling system, as well as trial battery electric locomotives, new digital platforms to optimise throughput and maintenance, and provide opportunities for our team every day to improve safety and production across our network.
By joining BHP Rail you will join a team with a rich history of innovation and continuous improvement in a heavy haul environment, but you will also have a bright future as we continue to invest in all parts of our network and are growing tonnages through our system every year.
If the new year is time for a new start – why don’t you come and join BHP Rail? We’re a great team with a great culture and plenty of exciting opportunities, working at the forefront of global heavy haul Rail. Come and be part of it.
