About the Role
We are seeking expression of interests of Specialist Industrial Communications professionals to join our Wireless Networks team where you’ll design, build, and maintain high-performance, secure, and resilient network infrastructure that powers mining operations and industrial automation. Reporting to the Superintendent Wireless Network within Coal Connectivity & Infrastructure, you’ll collaborate with technology teams and mine sites to deliver safe, reliable, and scalable solutions aligned with BHP’s engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver secure, scalable network architectures that meet current and forecasted demand levels with zero critical design defects.
- Provide operational support and troubleshoot complex network issues to ensure high availability and performance.
- Translate business requirements into secure, scalable network solutions aligned with OT standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Act as an escalation point for network incidents, driving root cause analysis and resolution.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives and coach team members to build capability.
Technical Accountabilities
- Applies expertise in Industrial Networks, LTE, wireless backhaul, and edge computing and edge security.
- Tests, deploys, and commissions infrastructure upgrades and new solutions.
- Manages software-defined infrastructure and reconfigures layouts based on traffic loads.
- Performs asset and inventory management to maintain visibility and compliance.
About You
You are a network engineering expert with a strong background in transport layer technologies such as fibre, wireless point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, routing, and switching—including MPLS and SD-WAN. You thrive in complex environments and are passionate about automation and scripting infrastructure as code.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- STEM qualification or equivalent technical trade certification.
- Proven experience in Routing, Switching, MPLS, SD-WAN, and Wireless Point-to-Point Microwave Transport networks.
- Expertise in designing and managing large-scale, secure transport networks (preferably in mining, oil & gas, or telecommunications).
- Strong understanding of protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, VPN, IPSec, WAN, and cellular networks (5G, LTE).
- Familiarity with WiFi, edge computing, and edge security products.
- Experience with monitoring tools: DNA-Center, NetACT, SolarWinds, Splunk, Cisco ThousandEyes, Datadog.
- Knowledge of ITIL and network security technologies.
- Ability to work in dynamic environments, manage priorities, and engage stakeholders effectively.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience with coding and automation for network provisioning and infrastructure as code.
