About the Role

 

Joining the WAIO Asset Leadership team and reporting to the Asset President, you will provide senior leadership to teams focused on the supervision of Engineering activities, integrating plans and activities to deliver a strategy for safe productivity.  

As the General Manager - WAIO you will be responsible for: 

 

  • Conducting engineering tasks, verifying construction methodologies and advising on engineering decisions for projects in alignment with Project / Construction / Commissioning Engineering Standards  
  • Employing specific or relevant discipline engineering expertise and leadership to meet BHP's technical expectations.
  • Assessing change impacts to prepare integrated change management plans, managing change readiness and resistance, and upskilling leaders and impacted stakeholders in the adoption and successful delivery of the change.  
  • Translating corporate objectives into actionable plans, communicating, managing and analysing the implementation of those plans, and reporting back on their progress to facilitate the delivery of our strategy.  
  • Identifying, engaging and managing a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Identifying and assessing risks, making risk informed decisions that utilises BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.  
  • Prioritising work effort and resources accordingly.  
  • Designing and implementing governance / assurance practices and Management of Change procedures to control value outcomes across BHP.  
  • Engaging the capabilities of the entire organisation.  
  • Striving to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.  
  • Knowing our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs.  

 

In this role, you will be based in Perth and will be required to travel to site.

 

About You

 

You will have held engineering leadership roles either in the resource or heavy industry sector and can demonstrate how you have utilised your technical and project management skills to lead teams through engineering activities, projects, standards and governance to positively and safely impact a business.  You will have a strong understanding of the project lifecycle, value levers and have proven success in delivery projects of varying size and complexity. 

 

By nature, you are inquisitive and a problem solver who embraces technical challenges to find the workable and innovative solutions and are able to build relationships with an array of stakeholders to achieve objectives.  Your communication, listening and influencing skills will all be strengths, along with your ability to prioritise work to meet various, and sometimes conflicting, deliverables. 

 

You are at ease in leading diverse teams through change, as well as having success in building capability through utilising your coaching and mentoring skills to make a difference to the team.  From a safety leadership perspective, you value nothing more than the safety of the workforce and hold yourself and others to account. 

 

A tertiary qualification in Engineering, or a similar qualification is required.
