About the Role

 

BMA is Australia’s largest producer and supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal and is owned 50:50 by BHP and Mitsubishi Development. BMA operates five mines in the Bowen Basin (Goonyella Riverside, Broadmeadow, Peak Downs, Saraji, and Caval Ridge) and owns and operates the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay. 

 

As the General Manager Hay Point, you will be accountable to lead high performance in the operation by delivering reliable safe production through an engaged and enabled workforce, maximizing value through the supply chain.  

In this role you will also be responsible for: 

 

  • Building an inclusive culture whilst encouraging curiosity in leaders and teams by providing alternative perspectives when viewing opportunities and challenges. 
  • Role modelling behaviours and applications in a disciplined manner for their team to replicate. Leadership underpinned by care, curiosity and humility.

  • Understanding voice of the customer and anticipates industry and customer trends, adapting, to ensure BMA remains competitive. 
  • Enterprise leader, collaborating with peers and cross functional partners to challenge and improve ways of working.
  • Assessing the maturity of the BHP Operating System focussed on improving performance outcomes (safety, culture, operations, cost) adjusting priorities as needed.
  • Enabling implementation of large-scale improvements, to processes and ways of working, that deliver performance uplift across the Value Chain.
  • Encourages innovation and reflection by enabling teams to experiment and challenge current ways of working.
  • Leveraging partnerships with strategically important organisations to navigate a more global business environment.
  • Anticipating risk implications and social value outcomes of decisions to enable teams to generate options that will enable business objectives.
  • Effectively influencing across the Senior Leader level to enable the identification and removal of systemic barriers to delivering sustainable improvement.


As the General Manager Hay Point, you will be based in Mackay, QLD.

About You

 

You will have held leadership roles in the resource sector (or a similar industry) where you have a track record in improving performance, and leading and embedding sustainable change within an operation.  Additionally, you have experience working in a complex matrix organisation and have a strong understanding of the project lifecycle and value levers with proven success in delivering projects of varying size and complexity. 

 

By nature, you are inquisitive and a problem solver who embraces adaptive challenges to find workable and innovative solutions and can build relationships with an array of stakeholders to achieve objectives.  Your communication, listening and influencing skills will all be strengths, along with your ability to priorities work to meet various, and sometimes competing, deliverables. 

 

You are at ease in leading diverse teams through change, as well as having success in building capability through utilising your coaching and mentoring skills to make a difference to the team.  From a safety leadership perspective, you value nothing more than the safety of the workforce and hold yourself and others to account. 

 

 A tertiary qualification in Engineering, or a similar qualification is required.
