About the Role
This role is responsible for ensuring the technical selection, development, interface management, and assurance of China-based OEM-supplied equipment, in alignment with BHP’s Charter and global standards.
The Global Principal acts as the technical bridge between global, regional, design functions, EPCs, and OEMs, ensuring fit-for-purpose, standardised, and assured solutions are delivered from our Chinese supply
partners. The incumbent must demonstrate strong technical capability, commercial maturity, and geopolitical sensitivity to operate effectively in China’s regulatory and supply chain context.
Key Accountabilities:
1. OEM Technical Selection & Development
• Lead the technical evaluation, qualification, and development of China-based OEMs for major equipment and components.
• Align suppliers to BHP’s minimum viable solution (MVS) philosophy, performance specifications, and lifecycle expectations.
2. Technical Interface Management
• Serve as the central technical liaison between global engineering teams, EPCs, and Chinese OEMs.
• Coordinate multi-discipline interface alignment across mechanical, electrical, structural, and control systems.
About You
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.
• 15+ years technical experience in capital projects, OEM management, and equipment technical assurance.
• Proven experience in China-based supply chains, design, OEM manufacture or fabrication for mining and/or heavy industry.
• Strong understanding of technical assurance, design governance, and OEM engagement.
• Mandarin language skills (business and technical fluency).
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in engineering or Asset Management.
• Experience working across global project delivery structures.

• High attention to detail in QA, design validation, and compliance.
• Resilience and discretion when managing sensitive supplier or regulatory matters.
