About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Management for Minerals Australia Projects (MAP) you will be responsible for a small team across multiple locations providing leadership and direction in the delivery of HSS technical and strategic improvement initiatives. This is a high-profile role requiring a high level of strategic thinking which translates into sustainable project HSS improvements. The MAP department is responsible for managing a very significant project portfolio of projects.
You will have the opportunity to build capability and capacity within HSS across MAP, both within the HSS Team, but also in broader project personnel leadership positions. The role holds the responsibility for the development and MAP HSS. You will also be responsible for leading the development and implementation of HSS improvement projects across MAP.
Key Accountabilities:
- Apply your deep technical HSS knowledge and experience across MAP to drive improvements in HSS performance
- Develop and lead a strong capable technical HSS team
- Drive improvement programs through strategic acumen and influence
- Establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Define and drive effectiveness and standardization of processes in partnership with your peers across HSS
- Develop and implement MAP HSS strategy aligned with the Global HSS Strategy
- Act as the interface to Global HSS, including reviewing Global HSS documents, programs and other requests, and manage the coordination of MAP requirements relating to Global HSS
- Build HSS capability and capacity within project teams through coaching, mentoring and the provision of advice on HSS strategy, systems and procedures
- Coordinate and support the governance of the HSS and Internal Audit and Assurance programs, as well as build and execute Line 1 HSS Assurance across MAP
- Define and track adherence to, and efficiencies within, the relevant HSS budget
- Support the MAP HSS Head role through the preparation of presentation packs, reports, analysis, strategic HSS support and improvement opportunities
Additional Accountabilities:
- Support and coordinate key MAP HSS Team routines including MOP, MIP, Monthly HSS Lead Team, HSS Team day, Quarterly HSS Lead Team, and Global HSS meetings
- Responds to, manages and provides specialist/functional expertise on health-related risks to uplift organisational capability in health management
- Develops and implements a program for Psychosocial safety, including management of the EAP provider for MAP component, and support to the Risk Owner
- Manages, improves and provides expertise on HSS risk management practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance. This includes a constructive and collaborative interface with the MAP Risk Team, Risk and Control Owners.

About You
You will be an experienced people leader with demonstrated experience leading a diverse team in the mining or similar heavy / manufacturing industry. You have a passion for developing others through coaching, mentoring, rewarding and guiding.
You will also have:
- Well-developed professional technical expertise in one or more HSS areas (including health and hygiene, emergency and security management, occupational safety, psychological safety)
- Extensive experience in HSS or related field
- Experience in Projects or Construction is highly regarded
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills with a demonstrated capability to negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and community groups, at a senior management level.
- Tertiary degree in a health, safety, security and emergency management or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective management of HSS related risks.
- Experience in or knowledge of the mining and construction legislative environment would also be an advantage
