About the Role

Reporting to the High Voltage and Power Supervisor, your duties the Technician - Primary Plant and Protection Systems will include: 

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Execute detailed commissioning and maintenance on complex protection and control systems
  • Execute professional commissioning and maintenance on HV substation primary plant
  • Take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all network assets
  • Develop Work Instructions, Task Lists, Procedures for the Primary Plant/Protection System Assets under control of HV & Power, Eastern
  • Ensure safe completion and close-out of Primary Plant/Protection System works on a daily basis
  • Execute critical Shutdowns, ensuring trouble-free maintenance windows and handback
  • Initiating and / or participating in continuous improvement projects
  • Liaising with Mine & Town Stakeholders to ensure a safe and efficient service
  • Ability to identify problems, implement solutions to manage departmental and company supply chain risk

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following: 

  • WA “A” Grade Electrical Licence – essential
  • High level of commitment to Safety
  • Australian C Class Driver’s License (manual) – essential
  • Proven maintenance & commissioning experience in a Power Utility environment – Protection Systems, Switchyards, Primary Plant – essential
  • Proven experience with High Voltage/Protection Systems in a Mining environment – highly regarded
  • Proficiency with setup, commissioning, and monitoring of various Protection Relay schemes, manufacturers etc.  Proficiency with the ‘Omicron’ suite of Protection Equipment will be highly regarded
  • Proven experience and competency in High Voltage Switching Operations – highly regarded
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are key components of this role as you will work closely with a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience with computerised maintenance management systems (SAP experience is highly desirable)
  • The ability to apply expertise to analyse and solve problems without clear precedent
  • High Risk Work Licence with any/all of WP, CV, LF, Dogging/Rigging endorsements - highly regarded
  • Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems Distribution Overhead – high regarded
     

 

Location 


With this role, you will be fly-in fly-out from Perth to Newman on 7 days on, 7 days off roster. You will be working on all Eastern Pilbara Mine sites, operating and maintaining the generation, transmission and distribution electricity network within the Pilbara region. Residential options as well as FIFO from outside of WA.
