ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an ambitious, motivated and globally minded leader with the tenacity, commercial depth and technical understanding to deliver strategic investment advice and asset-aligned growth across North America.
The Head of Business Development – North America will:
- Lead the origination, structuring, negotiation, execution and management of value-accretive growth opportunities across the United States and Canada.
- Partner closely with Asset Presidents and leadership teams to shape asset-level growth pathways and portfolio strategy.
- Deliver rigorous commercial evaluation and disciplined capital allocation across acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures and strategic partnerships.
- Lead multidisciplinary internal and external teams (technical, legal, financial, tax, regulatory, ESG) through complex transaction processes.
- Prepare and present high-quality investment recommendations to Executive and governance forums.
- Collaborate with global Asset BD peers across Australia and South America to share commercial intelligence, coordinate portfolio insights and strengthen enterprise capital deployment.
- Provide ongoing commercial advisory support to regional Assets to enhance competitiveness and long-term value realisation.
- Travel regionally and globally as required.
ABOUT YOU
- 15+ years of industry and transactional experience (direct investing or sell-side advisory) in corporate/business development, management/strategy consulting, investment banking, private equity/debt, venture capital or hedge fund industry; preferably in the minerals sector and with a broad range of progressively senior roles and responsibilities.
- An undergraduate degree in business, finance or a technical/engineering discipline.
- MBA or advanced/executive postgraduate degree highly desirable.
- Deep knowledge of the minerals industry and mining operations; understanding of geology, mining engineering, mineral processing and infrastructure is highly desirable, as well as experience in an operating business.
- English (mandatory); Spanish highly desirable
Attributes, Skills & Experience
- Proven track record of leading the origination, structuring, negotiation, execution and management of value-accretive transactions at an international level, including deep knowledge of M&A processes, term sheet drafting, legal documentation review, project review requirements and internal investment approval processes.
- Proven project management capability in leading internal and external multidisciplinary teams (technical, legal, financial, tax, external affairs, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
- Deep understanding of capital markets, corporate finance and accounting; experience with structured products across the capital structure (equity, debt, hybrid, streams, royalties, etc.) is a plus.
- Track record of generating and implementing creative solutions and differentiated investment angles in complex or competitive situations.
- Ability to apply understanding of operational and asset/technical disciplines to identify value-added business development and commercial opportunities, quickly assess potential investments and mobilise teams to solve complex strategic challenges.
