About the role
As the Head of Health & Wellbeing, you will lead the organisation’s strategic direction for all health and wellbeing initiatives, shaping the frameworks, systems, and commitments that enable safe, healthy, and high performing operations. You will provide senior leadership to specialist teams, aligning plans and activities to deliver a cohesive strategy for safe and healthy productivity, along with being accountable for setting the Group’s Health & Wellbeing strategy and ensuring delivery of our Health AIP and CDP commitments
You will be responsible for:
- Responding, managing and providing specialist/functional expertise on physical and psychosocial health-related risks to uplift organisational capability in health and wellbeing management.
- Making evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives and strategy, always maintaining agility with the changing nature of the portfolio and risk appetite.
- Strategic decision making – sources information, plans and conducts analyses to support evidence-based decision making.
- Identifies, effectively influences and manages a range of stakeholders.
- Recognises and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support healthy, safe and productive performance outcomes.
As the Head of Health & Wellbeing you can be based in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or Santiago.
About You
You bring extensive experience leading health and wellbeing programs across large, complex industrial organisations—ideally within global environments where you’ve navigated multiple geographies and regulatory requirements. You’re known for turning strategy and frameworks into practical, high‑impact action, and you have a strong track record applying global standards, including psychosocial frameworks, to lift performance and consistency across diverse operating contexts.
Your deep risk‑management expertise is demonstrated through your ability to drive continual improvement in health and safety outcomes. You’re also passionate about building capability, developing a team of health specialists with expertise spanning case management, event classification, medication declarations, document control, digital platform enhancements, Cority systems, and clinical and occupational health standards. Highly analytical, you confidently review and interpret complex health data to inform decisions and shape better outcomes across the organisation.
You also bring a strong operational mindset and a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver exceptional service to our customers. Whether leading globally diverse teams or engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, you build alignment, drive performance, and ensure outstanding results. You have demonstrated ownership of occupational health and safety risk management, along with a proven ability to deliver complex portfolios of projects, programs, systems, or processes in fast‑paced and challenging operational environments.
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in occupational health & safety, HSS technical field or equivalent degree is required.
