About the Role

 

Reporting to the Vice President Market Analysis & Economics, you will provide senior leadership to teams focused on the analysis of global commodity markets (including bulks, metals and fertilisers) and integrate plans and activities across functional boundaries to deliver our commercial strategy.

 

As the Head of Metals & Minerals Analysis you will be responsible for: 
 

  • Leading a global commodity analysis team to develop robust long-run metals and minerals demand forecasts with a deep understanding of macro-economic and technological megatrends.  
  •  Overseeing the use of qualitative and quantitative economic research methodologies to develop in-house views on commodity markets, including steel-making raw materials, base metals and fertilisers etc.  
  •  Identifying and communicating market insights and solutions that address key business needs to the Executive Leadership Team, and senior leaders across functions and Assets.  
  •  Contributing to BHP’s thought leadership endeavours, including strategic insights for external audiences, via website publications, investor briefings, and/or media engagements. 
  •  Building long-term commodity price outlooks and scenarios alongside the Portfolio & Strategy Development team to assist with portfolio strategy formation and decision-making. 
  • Assisting the Vice President of Market Analysis and Economics and the leadership of the Commercial function with strategic and commercial projects as required. 
  •  Being a pro-active member of the Market Analysis & Economics leadership team working to build and maintain an innovative, high-performing and inclusive culture for the team.  

 

As the Head of Metals & Minerals Analysis, the role can be in Singapore, China or Australia (Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide).  

About You

 

You will have a global mindset with deep experience in forecasting either market or commodity trends across various global markets, ideally the Asian Developing market. It is critical that you have strong technical analytical skills that enable you to analyse and articulate market and commodity risk at a portfolio level.  Your knowledge of key end use sectors (such as industrial, residential, commercial, transportation) when developing actionable commercial insights and your ability to present data and insights in a meaningful way will be important to your success.  
 

With first class communication skills, you are at ease in negotiating, engaging and building trusting relationships at all levels, especially those at the most senior. You possess a strong learning agility with an ability to connect the dots to solve problems in a complex environment and also possess a strong business acumen, having an understanding of the key drivers of shareholder value.  Energetic and results-orientated, you work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple and interdependent deadlines.

 

As a leader, you have strong capability in working within a complex matrix environment or alternatively you have had teams spanning across various time zones and cultures where you have been able to draw on your influencing skills to achieve results. You have a good track record in building capability and utilising your coaching and mentoring skills to positively impact your team.

 

A Masters degree in Economics, Engineering or Mathematics is required.
